I just spent about 30 minutes frustrated that a rail and stile setup did not go together square as it should.  I've used my domino for about a month now, and its been great. But today I cut the joints laid them out with dry fit and noticed a noticeable gap when they came together. I'm looking going !#@!, I must have not been holding the tool square or it's off a half a degree square.  I checked the tool and it seemed to be OK.  I mean a half degree out it will give you a small gap.  I then put a domino in the slot and put my precision square up and sure enough about a half degree off.  I going crap because I just put everything away.  So out comes the domino and I set it up and re-cut the slots making darn sure I'm holding it true.  Get done and put the pieces back together and that gap is still there. I'm scratching my head going what the heck is going on?  Then it hits me!  I notice a slight burn mark on the cherry! I put the square on the wood and bingo, it's off just a hair!  I run it real quick across the jointer and guess what, it's a perfect match!  Just goes to show you check for square first!  God what a basic thing to miss.  In the words of Homer, DOH! Oh well chuckled and thought back to my math teach and those thoughts of I'll never use this stupid geometry! Back to the fun!!!

Good rule that I live by - NO factory edge ever gets to the final product (even inside a joint, no ESPECIALLY inside a joint!), all edges and ends will end up in the trash bin or the dust bag.
