On another forum that I attend...when placing an ad, a form pops up that you are required to fill out...those are the 'must haves' in order to place the ad. Then you are allowed to write any additional information you would like...including posting photos...
I like classified ads. Especially in a forum of specialized interest. It narrows the selection of items offered and since we're dealing with very high quality tools with prices to match, the items for sale are going to be of high quality and be offered by quality people. I wouldn't be hesitant to purchase anything from this group. I would buy the jig saw being offered if I didn't need another item first. Make the classified as simple as possible for yourself as administrator. We all appreciate what you do for the forum.
kfitzsimons,
The classifieds area has undergone some significant changes. At first, I was monitoring it closely to make sure people followed a set of agreed-upon rules, because I would often get complaints from members and I felt I was responsible for making sure classified ads were legitimate.
However, over time, I decided to experiment with letting classifieds operate in a sort of gray area, an unofficial zone. In other words, members are on their own now in the classified section, and the only rules are the ones arranged individually between buyers and sellers.
I no longer get involved in individual classified situations, and I refer all e-mails about classifieds back to the seller. So far, it has worked out very well, allowing us to keep the classified section for those who want it.
To reflect these considerations, I've changed the "rules" into a set of "recommendations" (click here for more details).
