I am fairly new (6mo) to FOG and I have really enjoyed the overall site.  There is lots of good advice from many.  One thing I do find a bit annoying is in the classifieds section once items are sold.  I know they get marked as sold, but they still show up taking space and having to move past them to get to other items.  Just a suggestion, can they be moved to another section or deleted completely.  I am not sure who would want to look at items once they are sold.  Maybe have a smart program that searches for sold and moves them to an archive section in the classified.  Just a thought.

Keep up the great work though.. love the site.

It’s been suggested in the past that sold item threads be left so people can see some sort of history on the prices of items sold. I do agree with you, but think maybe the op should be the one who is asked to move their thread to a special ‘sold’ section, not that we ask the moderators to do this...

I think sometimes it is nice to have a historical record of past transactions, if for no other reason than to see what items usually sell for.  Having said that, it would probably be more helpful if the "sold" notification was placed in the subject line, rather than the body of the thread.  It would make for much faster skimming of the section.

[member=18038]copcarcollector[/member]  it seems we posted at the same time, and said basically the same thing....sorry

If the listing has been read or marked read then it should not show up as unread or a new post in Recent Unread or All Unread pages.

Having the member OP move a post to a different section is not going to be possible.

It is always good to mark items as SOLD in the title.  We try to add that to titles of sold items if the OP hasn't done so  and we happen to catch it.

Just consider it as a little extra service for the forum members and don't expect it to be as all-encompassing as eBay or CL.

But marking it as sold should be considered good standard practice.

I know it will never happen - but would sure be nice if the actual SELLING price was updated as well. Having a historical list of ASKING prices is just about useless for buyers.

Unless the seller marks the ad up with the price at which the item actually sold it doesn't really provide a pricing record, just an asking price record.

The issue with the rationale of if marked read it would not show up anymore, is a bit misleading. Unless you have read all the classified postings, then there will always be unread SOLD items appearing.  I also second the point of why would we want to see those posting which only have an asking price, without knowing what the final price is. For myself, I look at asking price and then go to internet to find what is current asking price for new and then decide or negotiate a price both parties are comfortable with.  Any, that is my 2cents worth.  Other than that, I really like this group.

Perhaps Classifieds section could have a "Sold" sub-section. That would require an action from the seller. Although, I'd prefer an option for the author to delete the post entirely.

Pull up the Classified board, click "Mark Read" towards the upper right. The entire Classified board will now be "read". After that only new posts / topics will show up.

Those would be nice but not possible. Either allowing the OP to move the topic or delete the topic are across the forum permissions. In other words they would be able to do those actions on all boards and to other peoples topics.
