Thanks for the tip. That should work for any saw blade that can fit into the lid.

Make sure you get the paint and mud off of the lid.

  I'm a believer in cleaning blades and tooling, ( I use a lot of eastern white pine) I keep thinking there has to be a household cleaner or DIY concoction that is semi green, safe, and won't promote rust.

Most citrus cleaners will work.

I was told never to use Simple Green. They said it affects the tooth braze.

We were cutting mahogany plywood pre-finished with SWP Kem Aqua Plus. Had to clean the blade every day. It really made a difference in dust collection and cut quality having a clean blade.

Arm and Hammer Washing Soda.  Not baking soda, but washing soda.  Cheap as heck, and a box will last you a loooooooooooooonnnggg time.

This was a topic that came up many times on a Canadian woodworking forum I belong to over the years.  A fellow there brought it to everybody's attention years ago (Mack) and many converts have sworn by it since.  Will not affect the brazing of the blade tips like some other solutions will like Simple Green apparently do for example.

Not sure how common it is to find A&H Washing Soda in the US, but here in Canada I went all over the place to find it.  It is found in the laundry detergent section, but up here it is somewhat rare to readily find.  Remember, it is Washing Soda which its intended market is as an additive to your laundry washing load as a 'booster' agent.

So does Felder. I use the Felder product to clean all of my circular saw blades from those of the TS55 up to the 550mm blades for the large slider saw and the radial arm saw.

CMT Blade and Bit Cleaner is what the blade pictured is soaking in.

If you can't find it locally, I believe Tom sells it.

Who told you not to use Simple Green?

I've had both blade and router bit manufacturer's tell me that was the best thing to use. I've heard this rumor before about effecting the braze, but that was about the oven cleaner we used back in the day.

Simple Green states not to use their original product except as a spray and wipe. The new HD should be okay according to SG.
