Hello

I'm new here but a festool owner for several years. Got a simple question.

I've owned all if my tracks for several years and replaced a few times. Just curious how often everyone changes their clear splinter guards. I guess it depends on usage but just wondering if there's a rule of thumb. Thanks.

I have peeled mine off and moved them over a few mm to get a fresh edge again,  yet to buy any new strips.

That's what I do as well.

Wow. Never thought of this. Does the adhesive still bond pretty well after peeling off??
Yes. Just make sure you clean the rail first before re-sticking. You might get some adhesive residue that remains on the rail when you remove the strip. I just use my thumb to remove it. Just like you would when removing contact cement.

I have not experienced any problems keeping strip on since Brian Sedgeley showed us to take a hex wrench or screwdriver and firmly roll/bond strip to rail. Before that tip, mine popped off end of rail regularly due to gravity while hanging in my garage. I have a number of rails so replacing strip is costly.

I have replaced my splinter guard once in 5 years, and that was when I bought my new saw a year ago.

Thanks all. I just know that when transporting the guards sometimes slightly shift when being bumped moved around. I'm so anal about precision and that 32nd sometimes can make a difference. Do you recommend a guide rail bag for transport or a big expense for the job it's doing? Thx.

You should make your own case out of 1/4 ply. The festool rail bags are junk.

I was told by a Festool rep that the strips should be maintained regularly. He also said to use scotch tape around the ends to secure it. Also if you have a black strip yet, it should be replaced with the clear ones.
