Can't seem to find much information about what exactly is new and improved about the latest version of this sander.

So - seems like an easy question - for a savings of $45 or so - is it a good idea to buy this if I can still find it?

Julian,

I'll leave it to other members to weigh in on your question about whether it's a good deal or not.  But, here's a link to a thread about the closeout tools and more specifically about the difference in the RS and RTS models.

The RS is the predecessor to the RTS.  Some dealers may have the RS 400 in stock but it's unlikely.  I suspect most customers will find that their dealer of choice will need to order discontinued items.  The basic difference between the RS and RTS is the counterweight was reshaped to provide slightly better balance and stability.  The discontinued tools still have a 3 year warranty.

I doubt most people would notice the difference between the two if they used both side-by-side.  You will probably need to get your dealer of choice to dropship one of these to you since dealers will likely not have them in stock.  We do still have a few units left at that price.
