I was looking for an inexpensive, painless way to get some more storage out of our small closet in the master bedroom and ended up building this quick and dirty set of shelving. All panels are 3/4 particle board core melamine w/ predrilled 32mm shelf support holes from Menards.
What made this so easy to do is that I did not assemble anything. Panels were cut to size and installed. The factory melamine edge was all that was needed on everything except the scribing cleats. I attached a scribing cleat to the wall side of the two outer side panels and scribed it to the wall so that two side panels would stand plumb against the walls. I used Fastcap self adhesive white edging to cover the pine cleats I used to scribe the panels to the wall.
Since the shelf span was too long to get two shelves out of an 8' panel, I decided to add a center upright panel and divided the space into one wide shelf and one narrow shelf. Nothing is attached to the wall, the shelves were cut to the exact width needed to wedge everything into place.
