Hello everyone I'm a new guy here so please understand if this questions has been asked before.

Just got my MFT and 55 saw (my first Festool purchases) after looking at several sites it seems there are really nice add-on tables that support a saw and also a router this system is called the CMS
is this system available here in the States ? if not why ???  is there a site I can go too to see this system demonstrated ?

I was going to make a router table but would love to use the CMS I am traveling to England next year and might consider trying to purchase it there and ship back.

Do any of the US members have this system?

Thanks guys

First, since I haven't officially welcomed you to the forum...  [welcome]

Next, the CMS is not currently available in the US/Canada. The reason is UL approval. If you search the forum you'll find a number of threads about the topic.

That will be the ONLY way you will get the CMS any time soon. I wish I had the opportunity to travel to the UK.

Early this year I was going to do the same thing with friends in the UK. But it just got too expensive. So I when the Kreg router table option with a dedicated Porter Cable router. Very happy with the decision.

sure bet that was painful

Thanks or the welcome Shane.

Pity about the CMS looks like I have to go the dedicated router and table way.

Looked at the Kreg table and the One by Sommerfeld which has a larger solid aluminum top anyone had any experience with the Sommerfeld unit ?

I've been seriously looking at Marc Sommerfeld's table, but also waiting for JessEm's new Mast-R-Lift Excel table being improved and re-introduced in January they tell me.

One thing I did not realize is that the owner of Kreg tools is the brother of Marc Summerfield.  Mark Summerfields fence system is total different then the kreg system.

Kreg fence is self squaring and is micro adjustably using the scale and micro adjust wheel on the right side of the fence.

Summerfields fence is used in conjunction with router bit bearings. There is no self squaring or micro adjusting. The fence is longer and taller. Summerfield fence also had zero clearance inserts in the fence.

Marc Sommerfeld feels it's not necessary to square up the router table fence or use a miter gauge for most operations and that's why his table is the way it is.  He uses the fence to guide a wood type of miter gauge and JessEm does this with their Mite-R-Slide so you're always square to the fence.  When routing for miters other than 90 deg. with Marc's, you would have to pre-cut wood to that miter angle as the backer guide if you wanted to run a piece along the fence or use the miter gauge slot on his table and do the whole squaring up procedure of the fence to the miter gauge slot.  On the JessEm it's easier since the adjustable miter gauge is attached to the fence.

As a side note, even though some of Kreg Tools (Craig Sommerfeld) and Marc's stuff looks similar, there are differences and a brotherly rift between the two, they told me.

I dunno about the sommerfeld but I have the kreg table with a triton router which has a built in above table lift system in the router and I love it more than anything...............except my festools.
