CMS GE issue

Hey Hans, how about when the router rings are proud of the router table surface? That does present a problem.

Here's a shot of the router rings before sanding. One side was .023" proud while the other side was 012" proud. Not only are the rings proud of the table but they are also inconsistent from side to side.
[member=44099]Cheese[/member] - proud of the table is definite non-starters requiring a remedy as you show.

We won't undertake anything else unless we receive new input to initiate added work on our part.

We are not fans of running narrow parts standing on edge across a router because it creates additional problems beyond just hanging up on the throat plates recess.

I understand exactly why you feel that way.  It is certainly not stable and the CMS does not accommodate aftermarket vertical and horizontal feather boards to provide that added measure of stability like a power feeder on a shaper.  However, not being able to do that operation safely negates the usage of a miter lock bit in the first place.  Yet they are used all the time so how does one safely and with precision use this bit to cut the edge side of the joint, especially on thinner stock?

Howard. Look at Infinity tools or any other vertical jig holder. I would personally make one, but can easily sandwich the piece to safely cut it.  Something like this.

I didn't know those were even available.  Thanks, Bryan!  It's exactly what I was looking for.

Regarding router insert and CMS router plate:

The whole plate could also be redesigned, it doesn’t even have to be in aluminium. As long as it accommodate the dimensions to fit the two CMS tables with templates for the fence, Festool lift and a “common” router plate dimensions.

Would that be an better solution? One could make one on its own. But still some machined parts where it is supported on the two profiles one the GE or VL, also where the router plate drops in would make it more durable. Just some thoughts.

My believe is that these are not items most owners will sell. At least not now when discontinued.
I have several CMS, the one with the OF plate is the one that they'll have to pry from my cold dead hands.
