I built a rack to hold my CMS modules ( I have 2 so far).

Is it Ok to hang the module with the tool installed. Say the OF 2200 for example.

Will the weight of it bend the module over time?

Thanks.

There was a discussion on this a few years ago.

http://festoolownersgroup.com/ask-festool/correct-storage-for-cms-modules/

Given the "CMS and Basis module tower MT 1600" is designed for "space-saving storage of the CMS and Basis modules", if you look at the dimensions, it has to have been designed to have tools attached, but I can't find any official recommendation. However, given how the modules are supported in the CMS itself (i.e. the insert plate takes all the weight) I can't see that it would cause issues.

I understand the plates are quick thick, and are ribbed to prevent deflection, so I can't see that leaving a tool attached would do much harm.

When my new kit arrives, I'm planning to leave the TS 75 permanently attached unless I need something more than the TS 55 as a mobile tool. Not so sure about the OF 1400, and for the PS 420, I've bought a spare guide mount and vacuum adaptor so that I can just clip the Carvex on and off.

The Festool tower supports the modules on their long edge, so I'd plan to copy that if at all possible. I've seen other designs supporting the short edges, but I always try to assume that Festool has it's reasons for doing things the way it does...

It's also shown in some Festool literature that you can leave the Festool routers attached, fold the legs, and still place the whole unit in the back of your van, so again, I'm assuming it's OK for them to stay in the modules.

So bottom line is I can't find anything to say you positively can, but I also can't find any evidence to say it is a bad idea, and although only the belt sander and Carvex modules are in the photo, at least the Carvex is still attached [source: Festool web site]

Does anyone have the shelf spacing and dimensions of the Festool CMS Tower?

I think it should be fine- I do the same with my OF1400 from time to time- but I store it upside down as well as the right way up so as to relieve the pressure.

A couple of albeit small pictures that show the modules stored in the tower with at least the saw still attached.

anyone got a part #of that nifty saw blade case/ holder on the legs of the cms.
of course I bet its naina

I'm guessing that as the US only has the router module, it wouldn't be available. It certainly doesn't show up at any online US stores in a search.

However, it is 492228 - Festool Saw blade holder SGA.

It's 460mm x 600mm (so two Systainers slide on to a shelf too apparently). I believe the shelf spacing is configurable and there a five "shelves" although they look like aluminium angles to be honest.

Perhaps if someone has one, they can provide more accurate details. I can't find a manual online.

I've found some photos in an old Basis Plus brochure that show some more views with the routers and saw still attached to the modules in the towers. I'm now pretty convinced that it is designed for that to be the case.

They're from a Festool New Zealand PDF if you are interested - http://www.festool.co.nz/images/Australia/Download/12_basis.pdf

Garry and all,

Thanks, Thats awesome info

This will save me a lot of time setting up and breaking down and repeat.

I just use some spur shelving spaced to support modules.

I was going to build one out of CLS. However because space is tight I thought the spur shelving would work ok.

I just took my TS 75 module out of the CMS and took it apart to set into the stand use.

i got my 2200 in it now.

The facial expressions in those Festool pictures are amazing ... the woman's face in the first picture in particular. I think we should have a caption contest for what was going through her mind [big grin]

I was ready to dismiss the unit until I priced getting the aluminium profiles to make my own - those extrusions are very expensive retail !! (particularly here in Oz)

Thanks for all the CMS info.  I had been contemplating purchase of the CMS for the router later this year.  But, the costs are pretty high.  If I could somehow assume other modules will/may be available in the US in the future, it may make the investment more feasable.  That leads to another question.  If the full Router CMS is $1,600, excluding router, how much do each of the other modules cost?  Also, does Festool offer combination prices where they combine the tool and module?

That CMS Module Storage rack looks great.  But it's just 8020 with aluminum angles.  It might be cheaper going the 8020 route, but not much at 367 euros.
