Hi Everyone

I know that there have been quite a few videos already of the CMS OF but I thought that the setup with the OF 2200 might be of interest. I have done it quite slowly and in some detail to help people with the setup procedure. Needless to say, the kit is superb. In Part 2 I show how easy it is to do panel raising.

Here are the links:

Great video Peter, I wish you posted it yesterday when I was setting up mine. One question though, I have the 2200 in the table also but to adjust the height is extremely difficult( yes I did unlock the plunge lock) have you had any trouble with yours?

Hi Locky,

No, no problem at all. I was surprised just how smooth it was given that the OF2200 is quite big and has a stiffer spring than the OF 1400.

What I really like about this setup is how easy it is to do cutter changes. The fact that the OF2200 plunges so deeply means that the collet is easy to get at and there is no need for a collet extension. I had a seriously close shave when my Dewalt collet failed due to the imbalance of a rather old collet extension and so one has to be quite careful.

Great videos, Peter.  That clear plastic piece that slips down over the OF 2200 (P/N 473449) is identified as a "Protective Cover" in the EKAT and is intended to keep sawdust out of the OF 2200's motor while it's upside down.  It has little to do with dust extraction, per se.

As usual Peter, a very nice review.  If someone could verify that the OF2200 parts are included in the CMS kits in the US, this could very well be my next Festool purchase.

I did not look at the EKAT but by keeping the dust out of the OF2200 it is probably helping the dust to go elsewhere - like to the extractor. I found that mine was quite tricky to fit as I have arthritic wrists but once on it stays put.

Over the coming weeks I am going to look at dust collection a little closer. When doing the raised panel I had some dust on the floor and I suspect that I would have been better having a 36mm connection to the router as that is where the majority of the dust was going. I am sure that when using 'bottom cutting' cutters that this may be an advantage. Dust collection is excellent but I would like to be able to provide advice for chaps working in other people's houses so that they get it as good as possible.

I did some shaping last night and it works like a dream.

I do not wish to encourage anyone to do something that Festool do not want you to do but ...

The extra parts are just pieces of plastic which have part numbers. So, if you would like to buy them in order to make your CMS OF complete, not to be used of course, then go that route.

I purchased my CMS last November, though it is still in its boxes (yeah yeah---), but it should be fairly new inventory, I will try and check the included parts and report back asap. I purchased a 1400 router for my set up, but the 2200 sure looks like it works well too.... for those who are allowed to do so!

Hello (again) Locky

I thought about this overnight...

Take the CMS OF out of the CMS Base and turn it upside down. Push down on the router body and see if it is stiff or hard to move. If it is then the problem lies with the router.

If it is not the router, push the router down and lock it in a fully plunged state. Now take the winding knob (height adjuster) and put it on the end of the height adjustment feature (it works from underneath as well). Try cranking it all of the way in both directions. If it is stiff then the problem is there. If so, check for dirt or any other foreign body clogging the threads. Look at the two ends and see if it has been damaged. Has the threaded shaft been bent?

If you cannot localise and fix the problem then take it back to your dealer who will sort it out for you - even if it means getting Festool themselves involved.

Thanks Peter, I have taken it out and the router plunges fine out of the cms unit, but in the unit I push th router up and it winds down beautifully. But when I wind it up it jutters as if both plunges aren't going up together, I have talked to my dealer and he talked to Germany and they said to take the spring out of the plunge mech.which dosnt sound right and it means every time I take it out and want to use it out of the table I have to put the spring back in ???

Are you sure that that advice came from Germany? That would mean that in the CMS OF it would rely on gravity to lower itself; I am sure that is not right.

Hi peter! Nice video's.. Am i seeing 2 cms bases in your shop? Are both yours?
I guess thats because you dont want to swop out or you just use both enough
to justifie the extra costs.. Currently i dont own the base, but i'm on the fence
about it..
I had the same problems with the off2200 not winding up easily wile
On the cms mod.. Some lubing with WD40 on both the router colums and
the threaded rod sorted it out for me..

Every time I'm on the edge of spending on the OF2200+CMS plus the TS75+CMS I get cold feet because of things like the fiddly winder ... then I'm back looking at a Hammer saw spindle:

http://www.hammer-australia.com/au-en/products/saw-spindle-moulder/sawspindle-moulder-b3-winner.html

A CMS-GE with the OF2200+CMS, TS75+CMS and all of the tables and doodads and CMS tower come to about $8K here - the same price as the B3 Winner. The B3 Basic is far more comparable and is even cheaper!!

I don't need portability, but space and flexibility are still important to me.

Urrrghhh [eek] [sad]

Hi Rick

I have the CMS TS and use it all the time. I could not stretch to the Precisio like you but love what I have. I have taken on some extra work and that is why I have the CMS OF. I will need to be able to operate away from base but, more importantly, I have been used to two router tables for years. I often do compound moulding with cutters in two tables. The beauty of the CMS (and Precisio) approach is that in a small workshop they are so easy to move around.

I am working on a pedestal desk at the moment and I need to do rebate cuts on the CMS TS and then remove the balance of the waste on the router table and so both need to be in operation at the same time.
