I'd get rid of my wife before I'd do without of my CMS.

Better hope nobody tells her what you said, Tom.  You'll be learning to sleep on your CMS (and hoping she doesn't sneak in and turn it on [scared]).

Nobody has to tell her what she already knows. ;)

I plan on it, can never tell what she's think though.  [scared]

Tom,
Someday, if you can get around to it, I'd like to see more pics of the cradle.  Even better, would be to see a video of the CMS in action while you make it. It is really a sweet piece! Also, I recommend removing the post (which I will not mention...didn't even see it) ...before she uses the CMS to rout you another ...

After 35 years of marriage, she's used to the tools (get your minds out of the gutter) being first. She knows they have allowed her to have what she has.

Here is a short video of it swinging;

Not to step more on this post here is a link to the Members Projects post;

I'll update my post with a few more links.

I have been on the fence about the CMS for awhile. I have an MFT and would probably buy the MFT extension set.  Here's my question. Is there any benefit to buying the $1600 set instead of the $1300 set.  I would think that you would have more options and stability with the MFT extension. Thoughts???

But the other piece of it is that I use Festool because I want woodworking to be a joy, not a chore. I have a limited amount of time I can devote to this hobby, and I want that time to be as good an experience as possible. When visiting my mother I can use her more conventional router table, but it's a process filled with little annoyances. By contrast, every time I use the CMS, the work is a pleasure and what I produce is better than my meager skills deserve. To me, the extra enjoyment is worth the premium -- though everyone does that calculation differently.

^This.

I have a 1400 that I got a great deal on but wasn't sure if I'd keep. The CMS might be the best reason to keep it. But this comment sums up why I feel its worth buying Festool. It's a pleasure to use - always.

I have the stand alone, always set up, never in the way, good extension to the MFT and vice versa.

I felt that since I really like the festool SYSTEM I will stick with the system. The CMS is designed to be used with all te festool routers and if approved by the US the TS 55/75 and jig saws and a belt sander. All the accessories for te CMS can be used with each of the modules I mentioned.[/shadow]
The systems aspect touted here is really bogus for those of us in North America.  I will not consider buying the CMS until the NA offering is, indeed, a proper part of the entire system.  Until I can use my OF2200 and TS75 or TS55 in it with Festool's blessings, I'm not going to consider spending significant dollars on a castrated red-headed step child of a real system.  And that's before I even contemplate the hassle of switching router and saw in and out.  I'm already annoyed as hell swapping hoses and cables from my Kapex and whatever other tool I am using.

I'm not sure how much I like the idea of the dust being sucked through the router lift casing? Am I missing something?  The incra fence is terrific, though.  Has anyone tried rigging it up to the CMS?

My UJK Table has an under table cabinet with a 4" connection point (similar in concept to the Incra setup) and I too felt a bit uneasy about the idea. In practice it works pretty well because it has an adjustable air inlet that creates a good through draft when in use. Mine has a large side door which allows me to put a vacuum nozzle through to give everything a monthly clean. My old router table relied entirely on a back fence collection port and the port on the router base and I still got a bit of dust in the air - particularly when cutting MDF. This new arrangement is completely dust free.

I looked into this further...when you add up all the pieces: top, base, lift, superfence, clean sweep, hose- you are into this table just over $1450.  For me, eventhough I love the superfence, I think the CMS GE Set still makes more sense...portability, outfeed table, sliding table, safety features.  Am I missing something?

Add jointing, dust collection and the ability to use two really good Festool routers without modification.  I added a second extension table (infeed) to enhance the versatility.  Hard to go wrong with the CMS-GE.

I had this same debate earlier this year.  I ended up going with the CMS-VL.  I really like it (would love it if not for the fence!)

I am looking at getting the Incra 25 positioner fence setup.  See it here

Don't get me wrong, I can work quite well with the fence, but I want "easy".

cheers

I'm in Denmark so for me the CMS IS a system now. I have a limited budget, and it might make sense to get other elements of my setup before the CMS, but on the other hand I can just swing the CMS + OF 1400 set, for me I think the sliding fence and of course the dust extraction hoses are abosolutely essensial additions.. So right now I would get the hoses and have to wait for the sliding fence. But it seems to me after looking at weight and transportation/storage considerations, it just does not seem like anything beats the CMS.

I see these modules in my near future if I get the CMS GE, the jigsaw module, the TS75 module, the belt sander module seems a little pricey also when the Festool beltsander already has a stand available.

What I'd like to see as additional modules, a drillpress, and a planer module would be great..

I see the CMS systems strength as being it's accuracy in use combined with it's portability..

I'd never have imagined that I would be perhaps getting the CMS so soon in my Festool roadmap plan, but as a set with the router it's actually close to doable...

festool has a drill press stand that you can put one of their drills in and use it as a small press.

dont know much about it just saw it in a catalog

I recently got the Incra TS-LS kit with the wonder fence, so it will be interesting to compare notes (once I actually get to using it).

Interesting a small drillpress is really nice to have I'll look into it..Thanks

I can't wait to see someone post images of using an Incra fence with the CMS.  It shouldn't be hard to adapt with an extension table mounted to the extrusions (probably will have to remove the cord holders).

I am perfectly happy with my CMS GE and hope to use it a lot more this winter.
