Number ONE ... don't do what I did and pull it all apart. Just play with the tension on the self locking nut on the opposite end of the rod to the adjusting knob (easy to see from underneath.
If you do pull it apart you'll find the trapped nut and bolt don't stay trapped and it's a right royal pain to put back together [embarassed]
