CMS riving knife

Hi all

I'm thinking of taking the plunge on the CMS unit along with the ts75. Am I correct in thinking that the riving knife needs to be removed completely and replaced with the bigger one supplied with the module?

The saw will always be kept in the module but I do a fair bit of rebate work, so having to change the riving knife over everytime sounds like it may be a bit of a faff. Unless someone can tell me it's super simple it's the one thing that is holding me back from the purchase.

Also I understand that with the ts55r, the riving knife doesn't need to be removed. You just add an extension, which I could then remove for rebate work? I'm guessing thats easier than switching the riving knives over completely on the 75?

Hopefully that makes sense!

Thanks in advance, Tom

Correct, if you follow the instructions you have to swap the riving knife for the extended version (with dust extraction).

However as I frequently take the TS75 out of the module AND I don't care for 100% dust extraction, I never swapp the riving knife. I ALWAYS lower the blade when I leave the module unattended since the blade is clearly not covered.

Take the plunge and enjoy! Don't forget to buy the sliding table, the extensions and several sawblades  [big grin] [big grin] [big grin]

Thanks for getting back to me guys

I guess I have a decision to make....

1. Go for TS 75 and switch the riving knife everytime I need to make a rebate.
2. Go for TS 75, leave the saws riving knife in. Good for all cuts but loose guard and some extraction.
3. Go for TS 55R which (I think) is easier to switch riving knives but loose some power and depth of cut.
4. Hold out for an update to ts75 with easier riving knife change (doubtful)

Can anyone who has used both the 55R and 75 in the CMS confirm if the riving knife change is in fact easier/quicker with the 55R?

I have a CMS and used both TS 55 and 75 inside it - the riveting knive/dust hood holder exchange process is neither quick nor fun on both. My take is:

5. Hold out for the TKS 80 (Festool version of the SawStop) that will have a quick change feature for the guard/knive.
(and then sell off my CMS with the TS plates)

You need to swap out the riving knife if you want to use the blade guard.
