CMS Table Saw Sled

CMS table saw sled runs on the V-grooves on either side of the CMS stand. I made this just as an experiment to see how well it would work. It is the cleanest cut I've ever seen on the CMS as it is zero clearance and if you cut off a tiny slice it can't fall down inside the saw. For small stuff it works really well and feels very safe in operation. It even does a good job with dust collection. The hardwood strips that ride in the V-grooves have been waxed and it glides easily across the saw table.
The cuts were 90* when checked with a Woodpeckers 1281 square.

I reckon this could easily be modified to cut box joints the width of the saw kerf or far better still with the CMS router module installed cutting box joints of many sizes.

I wonder if this has ever been tried before for the CMS because a Google search turned up nothing, despite the hundreds of YT videos saying how awesome a table saw sled is.
So is this awesome? I think it could be with some refinement and it definitely makes a nice addition to the CMS/TS.

Thanks for sharing your idea here, seems like a simple thing to implement too.

Thank you, it was simple, yet it surprised me how well it works.

is the CMS table saw sold in the US? or NAINA?
Hans

You might be able to contact some UK dealers they might be able to sort a module out for you.
It won't be cheap.
Is anything Festool cheap?

Well done looking great.. Of course the CMS does have the sliding sled attachment but a rather pricey accessory, but it is slick.
Only issue I can see is if one has the TS55, then it does take away some depth you'd be able to cut to, apart from that looks like a winner. I'm also amazed that there is no vids showing a table saw sled setup such as yours for the CMS.

That is so clean and simple it is Brilliant!

Very slick, this could allow for some cool jigs.  Thanks for sharing.

That's what I thought - jigs - and the numerous possibilities with the table saw or a router module installed in the CMS. YouTube has many for inspiration...

I have the CMS sliding table attachment, but for small stuff and especially cutting off tiny pieces this DIY sled works better and feels much safer. The sled base is 9mm BB ply so it reduces cutting capacity to about 40mm (I'm guessing) when used with a 55 saw. Also, because the CMS top is quite small anyway the length of cut on the sled is only about 220mm as that's the distance between the fences. Admittedly this is nothing new to what a mitre saw can easily do, but how about all the possibilities with DIY table saw jigs or using a sled with a router installed in the CMS...

This is great.
I was thinking the other day about how to to construct something to achieve this, and you've done it.
Hope you don't mind if I copy it. [big grin]

Hello Mark, please do, it would be nice to see a nicer one, but especially what someone else thinks of it when they've tried it.
