Hi,

I have just ordered a CMS-VL set and am trying to decide if I should also buy the Incra 25" LS Positioner System & Wonder Fence. For those of you who have this setup, do you have any suggestions or recommendations? Is the 25" ideal or would you have preferred the 17", 32" or even the metric equivalent? I will try attaching the LS to my MFT via the dog holes. I also have an almost unused Kreg router table with lift and PC 7518, but I am not happy with the dust collection.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.  If this is not a great setup I could spend the $450 on something else  [cool]

I haven't got round to ordering, but I'm going to go metric (obviously) and get the 25" equivalent. The thing with the MFT holes and the fact that you can use as much of the fence as you want really asks what the likely width of something would be that you would want to work using the fence calibration in one session. If you wanted to make a box joint or dovetail joint across a 24" board, you'd need to get the 32" or you'd be moving the fence mid job.

I have the 25 and 32 positioners and often think a 17 would be a little more useable sometimes. If you fix the positioner using the table holes then a 17 is definitely the way to go, however if you hang it off the end of the rails then I would get a 25.

Hope this helps if it makes sense.

I'm very happy with my metric LS-25 Supersystem on the Precision Dogs Precision plate.

It fits just perfectly on the MFT and you are left with abt. 30cm of workspace at the end of the table when the LS is pushed forward against the saw blade/router. I wouldn't go shorter nor much longer either (I thought the 32" is a different design for use with the table saw side rails anyway?)

Here is a good thread with lots of pics that I posted a while back.  I love my 25, but would be able to deal with a 17 if i wanted to save a few bucks.  If you get the Precision Plate (from Precision Dogs), it will make the interface a LOT easier to contend with.  It takes a couple of minutes to dial in the first time, and the thing connects and disconnects from the table in a matter of seconds from then on out.  Great piece of kit for this setup.

I will also say that I love two other accessories with this setup... The Jessem Clear Guide Rollers and the Gripperr push block.  Both are great for routing and cutting if you have a TS insert (for the folks outside of NA).

good luck and let us know how you get along.

I just looked at the Precision Plate, but it is out of stock. I will email them to see if it will be available again.

Daniel,

Jerry is a great guy to work with.  He is generally very responsive, and can let you know what they have in stock.  You will love this thing...

I hit the button as soon as it was release - it's beautifully made! ... though I'm yet to use it with a positioner [embarassed]

Really got to get round to that!

Go with the 32" one with the base switched for the router base.

I love my setup based on many folks input on the FOG.

The 25 and 32 both fit in each others carriage and are identical apart from the length. The table saw setup includes a different type of carriage that is pressed steel and not the usual alloy part. I'm aware that the 17 is not practical within the table saw assembly but I suspect it will fit.

My own gripe at the 25 is when it protrudes past the table and it juts out. Appreciate this is applicable to my own situation but it does take up space and there are times when a 17 would be more apt, especially if you setup the positioner using the holes via the plate. I'm using my 32 on a TS setup connected to a DIY MFT hanging off a Hammer K3. The 25 is setup on a separate DIY MFT table. I'm likely to grab a 17 at some point based on my experience.

The 25 is probably the best overall choice but my own experience says not always is all I'm saying.

Slartibartfass, that setup looks superb.

I like to be able to use the whole range of one MFT/3 table with the 32. Again just needs the base switched which can be done while ordering to be able to use it with the precision plate.

Where did you guys purchase the Incra LS? Lee Valley is out of stock until October 9th and I don't like waiting  :'(  I have contacted Jerry at Precision Dogs and the Precision Plate should be available soon. Now I just need to decide on 25" or 32" or go with the metric version. I'm finding it difficult to go all metric... too many decisions and choices  [scratch chin] The CMS-VL is on backorder but I hope to have it all setup by the end of the month.

Do I need to order a different base than what the LS comes with to utilize the precision plate?

I thought that it would already come with the router base because it is for a router table  ???

I can't remember if I bought that LS on Amazon or from Incra direct. I got a really good deal when I got it, but can't recall where!!

Malte is right. The 17 and 25 are "router" setups. I will be honest, if you are doing 1 MFT and the CMS, the standard 25 might be your best option.

I agree. As long as you only have one table unless you install the LS Positioner on an extension beyond the table surface a 25" will be sufficient.

But you know how it goes. Where there is one table a second will show up eventually....

Also as to imperial vs metric I bought the imperial one and a metric conversion kit to be used if and when I decide to go (back) to metric. Don't really see the need despite growing up metric....

Incra has a list of suppliers on their site, I bought my own kit from the UK and Germany so we pay an extra delivery premium for it here. It's entirely likely that which ever distributor you go with may have to order the kit anyway so if you don't via Incra directly just as the distributor for the correct base plate.

I still agree that the 25 is best however Slartibartfass makes a very relevant point in that another table could turn up, that or a pair of MFT 2m rails which is what happened to me. The best salesmen these tools have are ourselves after all.
