Has anyone else used the CMT hinge boring tool? I want something portable that will drill the cup and the 8mm holes for the hinge dowels at the same time. I've had the Blum Ecodrill and it worked ok but still a 3 step process.

I have the Sommerfeld model, and really like it.  I have used it on numerous doors, and like the tap in blum soft close hinges as well.  Bill

Sorry, this is a silly question, but do people typically just use a drill to bore the hole for a euro hinge or do they use their router?  I can't find any forstner bit that fits my router (OF1400), unless it's mucho bucks.

I use the Blum Ecodrill, it works great and the fact you have to use 3 drills separately is no problem for me.
It's a lot of money, but it paid itself back for only 25 hinge-cups. The only con is that you have to stick with Blum hinges, but they are one of the largest sellers in Europe.
Here they sell 35 mm hinge-bits with an 8 mm shaft that only cost €9, probabely MPRC?
I can't imagine they are not available in the USA for that money. For only a few holes it will do the job.
On the contrary the Festool version HW S8 D35 (491077) cost €83. Or are these NAINA?

Go with the CMT. With the single spindle it saves time over having to spin 3 spindles separately. I chuck mine in the drill press for shop use.

With the CMT you can get 3 or 4 different heads for it to cover other brand hinges besides Blum. They also have a shelf pin head that fits the stand.

If you don't want the retainer holes drilled, just don't install the 8mm or 2.5 mm side bits.

Hi Tom,

Where do you get 10mm shank 2.5mm diameter side bits for the CMT head?  The smallest I can find is a 4mm LH  from CMT, p/n 310.040.12.  I already have the 8mm side bit for hinges with plastic inserts, but I am looking for smaller bits for the direct screw mounts.

As to the CMT jig itself, I have had mine for six years and like it a lot.  The one-rod offset stop fence thingy is kind of flimsy, but everything else is great.

Festool makes a 35mm bit that fits the OF1400. Also sold in the LR32 kit.

CMT ordered.
Has anyone used the line boring head for it? Is there an index for moving the material and lining up with the next 5 holes?

I'll get the numbers off the cases tomorrow.

You need the CMT 365.025.00 2.5mm Bushing for Twist Drill and the Cmt 363.025.11 Twist Drill 2.5X27X57 Rh
The twist drill fits into the bushing which is 5mm. The CMT head takes a 5mm shank.

Forstner bits are not meant for routers. Routers turn too fast. You want to look for a boring bit designed for a router. Festool sells 35mm and 20mm diameter boring bits here.
