Computer savvy? I have a question

I know everybody's computer savvy in the new millennium, but.

How do y'all do the deal with naming a link.

Like lets say  festoolownersgroup.xxx, how do you make that just the word FOG

so you can just click the three letters.

Anda nother thing, how do you draw a line through text?

Lets say for comedic purposes, I wanted to scratch out the word that really applies,

and use a more generic or politically correct definition,

all the while clearly showing the true nature of sentence construction.

You folks do this every day, so I figure I can handle it.

Easiest way is when you reply to the message, there are a couple of rows of buttons that put in the html codes for you to use for different text tags - bold, italic, strike-through, whatever - these:-

If you choose the Insert Hyperlink button (the one the cursor's on in the above pic) then you'll get a pop-up window that lets you put in the URL, followed by another that prompts you for the URL name - put in the text of your choice.

So you end up with, say, my website is here - where the 'here' is a clickable link to my website.

Using the bold, italic or strike-through tags is just like using a smiley  ;)

Hope this helps, Pete.

p.s. nice to see the 'Preview' now shows images! Thanks!

Thanks Pete!

Whood a thunk all those buttons did anything?

I thought they were decoration.

How is that for lack of courage?

And having taken the opportunity to go to your website this Sunday morning,

I must say its one of the best written descriptions of a business I have read.

Heck, after reading that I want you to come and work on my house,

maybe go Fishing or something afterwards.  ;D

Per,
Aside from using the buttons, you can use native HTML.  If you see something you like, you can use the menu item "View->Page Source" (this in firefox, most browsers have something similar) to view the source HTML for the page.  You'll see that all "special" text has some tag around it starting with a less than symbol ''.  Copy that and fill in your own content.  Google "HTML tags" and you'll find some good basic primers.  In most of the forums you'll type in HTML and it will be formatted when people view the message later.  The buttons insert the HTML tags for you.

Awww, thanks! Hey, I'll work for anyone, though I think the traveling costs might end up a bit steep :o - fishing sounds good though!

Cheers, Pete

Great description! The screen capture really makes it clear.

I just want to add that you need to first select the text (as in preparing to cut or copy) before clicking the button.

Per,

I see that you got a lot of responses on the HTML tags but nobody answered your question about the link.  I have the feeling that you're talking about bookmarking.  If so, that's simple but I'll need to know which program you use so I can give you the correct instructions.
