Connecting Ridgid Miter Saw to Festool Dust Collection

The Festool vacs have a standard port in the front of the Vac that works with all hoses, so you could just use one of the orange rigid hoses that might have an end that fits well over the Ridgid mitre saw dust port.

Alternatively, if you wanted to use the Festool hose, there is the Fein step adapter that you can cut to size for the dust port on the saw:http://www.rockler.com/fein-step-adapter-for-turbo-i-and-turbo-ii

Hey guys- I'm new here, and new to Festool! Loving their products. I'm looking to connect a ridgid miter saw to the festool dust collection system. Does anyone have experience with this? Any particular adapters you'd recommend?

Here is my saw:

I also have a ridgid belt sander I'd like to connect, but I'm not sure it's even worth connecting a belt sander? Thoughts?

Thanks!

Welcome to FOG!

The Ridgid compound miter saw is rated 15amps. There is several discussion on FOG about using the CT vac outlet with miter saw. Personally my CT-26 is 5 months old and I took no chance to void the guarantee by using an iVac switch with dual outlet.

As for the belt sander, I am curious how well it capture dust with the bag already. I have few but only bad experiences with belt sanders  [blink]

I have the same saw that I use for construction type work, I tried hooking the dust port to my Midi, #bigfail The Rigid just doesn’t have a good pick up point or dust shroud built around it to collect much dust at all. So I never tried it again.
You could do something to improve the saw, but since I generally only use mine outdoors I don’t really care.

Any shop vac type hose should work with the right sized adapters. Home Depot should stock the hose and the adapters. I bought a set of adapters at HD that I use with a Bosch SCMS. As suggested dust collection is crappy with most miter saws until you add a piece of rubber type fabric directly behind the blade, similar to a Kapex.

Thanks to all who have responded. I'm looking to use the festool hose, so I may try one of the adapters listed above. I've heard that the Ridgid doesn't suck the dust as well as the Kapex.. I've seen a video on youtube of a guy who took the kapex boot and attached it to his Bosch Miter saw and it seemed to work fairly well. I'll let you all know how it goes!

also [member=66597]Mario Turcot[/member] Good call on the belt sander- The bag doesn't collect much dust at all, so I can't imagine a hose would do much better? At least a random orbital sander has holes in the paper to allow air flow.

Is there any reason you're insisting to use the festool hose?  Many of us use a dedicated (shortened) 36mm hose for the miter saw to eliminate some of the airflow loss.  I just leave the pigtailed hose hanging off the miter saw when I need to move the dust collector to use it elsewhere with the handheld power tools and a 27mm hose.  ear3 is right, the ridgid hose should fit right into the Festool vac, just shorten it to meet your needs.

[member=37411]ear3[/member] I've got the new Midi. Looks like it doesn't have the dust port on the front that you mentioned, which means I'll have to use the festool hose and an adapter at the saw.

Welcome to the forum!  [smile]

The port on the Midi is the same size as on the rest of the CTs. The right angle connection should pull free from the vac. Takes some wiggling , it can be a tight fit.

Ideally you want an adapter that fits OVER the Ridgid saws dust collection port. Maximum airflow is important and a D27 hose which Festool vacs come with just isn't big enough.

Modifying the saw probably will do a lot more than just hooking up a VAC. Make your own rubber/plastic shroud or modify the existing one. My small Metabo KGSV 72 xact shoots debris out of its dustport even without my vac attached. No amount of suction is going to fix the situation if dust isn't picked up/contained near the source.

Great thoughts! I found an adapter that fits over the ridgid dust port that I can insert the hose into. Now for the shroud and I should be good to go. Fingers crossed. Thanks everyone.

find the rubber plumbing Fernco couplers work well on some equipment to adapt to a 2 1/4 shopvac type hose. I used a 5' bit of this on my hitachi 8" mitersaw with a fernco.

I have upgraded to the 28 Lb 7.25 Milwuakee m18 saw. It wont trigger the Vac, so I went with the Chopshop hood. So far I am happy with it and more importantly so are my clients.
