Let me begin the conversation by saying the CMS will only be available with the router module for the OF 1010 and OF 1400.

Available October 1st, 2012.

Shane

Shane, I see you listed the OF1010 and OF1400 routers for the router module.  The OF2200 will also work, was that just an oversight or is there some reason it won't work?

Brice, as many of you who have been following the CMS will know, there's been complications getting UL approval on this tool. The UL approval currently only exists for the router module and the OF 1010 and OF 1400 routers. Therefore, there is currently not support in the US/Canada for using it with the OF 2200. That's not to say that it may not change at some point, but currently I would only count on compatibility with the OF 1010 and 1400.

Interesting...in Europe the CMS module kit is the same for OF1400 and OF2200. Perhaps they are holding back the bits specific to the OF2200?

Personally I'm very happy to see any part of the CMS coming to the USA, Thanks Festool.... [big grin]

The sliding table for coping rails will be awesome!

So the question is will the US version have the same exact inserts as the rest of the ones made in Europe, if so can we then just buy the insert for the TS55 when we head over the pond and plug it in the US CMS unit.  That is the question I want answered.  If the answer is yes then I will buy one, if no that is one expensive router table.  Same goes for the jigsaw insert.

Glad to see this first step, Shane.

Is there a continuing effort to bring other modules to the US market for the saws?  Curious if this is a routing tool only 'forever' or if you are working to gain UL approval / modify designs for other modules as well.

Neil

So, at the bottom of the festoolcms link, it states the Festool buy & try 30 day policy. Is that just a general statement or is the CMS considered a power tool and also carries the same warranty?  Just curious...thanks in advance!

Bob

Do we have a price on this yet?  And the accessories would be great too

Shane are they going to offer a a pakg selling the CMS with a router.

I already own a 1010 but for a table mounted router Id like to get one that can hande 1/2 shank bits.

The components for using the OF 2200 will not be included.

As far as I know, there are no physical difference in the US/Canadian CMS and the one sold in other parts of the world other than power related component. We have UL approval only for the OF router module and cannot sanction the use of other modules in the CMS.

Neil, I suspect that there will be a continuing effort to bring additional NAINA components, tools and accessories to the North American market including the other CMS modules. However, I don't have any specific information about those efforts.

Bob, the CMS is considered a tool so the 3-year warranty and 30-day money back guarantee would apply.

Any Videos of the router module?

There are currently no plans to offer packages that will include a router.

The wife asked me (well, told me, you know how it goes) to go get another bottle for the baby at around 3:30 this morning.  I got out of bed, and even though it was warm out, I felt a very deep chill for a second or two.  Maybe a certain somewhere actually had frozen over, and I just didn't realize it at the time.  I'm glad to see that Festool managed to at least work around some of the gating issues they were facing, and get at least part of the system available over here.  Now, I need to explain to the wife why I "need" this, hah.

On topic, the MFT/3-VL has been in EKAT for quite a while, now that it's officially a "sanctioned" product for North America, are you guys planning on adding in the various accessories and router plate(s?) to the system?

That is awesome that this is going to be available here!  Disappointing that the 2200 module is not going to be available -- that makes no sense to me and the 2200 seems like the perfect router for table use.

Does it take the same plate for both the 1010 and 1400 or is there a different plate for each router and if so, what is the cost?

Thanks!

Scot

The EU CMS-OF insert is same for all three routers. The difference is only in which way round you put the guidepin into the router (1010 one way and 1400/2200 the opposite way) and which plastic top ring to use around the collet/table too.  The 2200 also needs a small transparent plastic cover around its shank under the table to halt the dust going into its motor when inverted. I recall JMB posted some pics of his in a thread about his 2200 baseplate mod to his CMS-module to enable quick swap of the 2200 with its swappable base plate screwed permanently to the CMS module elsewhere on FOG.

The clamps are universal J-shaped pieces of aluminum with screws throung them to tighten the clamp to the routers baseplate.

So if the NA 2200 has an identical baseplate to the EU version it should fit into the CMS-OF module and all you need is two plastic rings to complete the fit.

would the vl attach to the cms unit to make a dual unit. not of any use to ye yet but to us. having 2 inserts set up would be cool

the CMS-VL CMS insert holder attaches the the the newer style MFT profile, it has a plastic v shaped connector that sits on the MFT profile. The CMS-VL itself uses the smae profile as MFT, so you can attached any number of VL together, or put one at each end of an MFT is you wanted to lets say have a permamnent CMS with the TS55 and a router CMS set-up

Can the fence halves be offset independently front to back?
