Consolidated Q&A for CMS Router Table

Then again that's what the UG wings are for, right

Now, that's what I'm talkin' 'bout!

It's a system - the UG wings, the MFT, the UG handle (while folded), a stack of systainers...

Tom

If/when (but more if) I ever get the video edited of the making of the links for the cradle, you will see how the system saved what could have been a major screw up (I might have even cried).

I have the CMS model GE system with all of the accessories as well as a number of different festool clamps. I was attempting to clamp something to the sliding table (pushing down) as well as clamp to the fence on the sliding table and was surprised none of the clamps would work any better than non-festool clamps. It seems like festool would have a clamp that would work as part of their system. Am I missing something here? The fence on the sliding table has a couple of slots that a clamp could be designed to fit into.

Looking to hopefully upgrade to the CMS soon.  On the included split hose, is it AS?
Regards, Sam

Thx Peter.
Have seen pics that they look black in and pics
that show silver. So being non antistatic, they accumulate dust?

I've never had a dust issue with mine. The cord on the CMS provides a ground path, unlike the double insulated tools that do not have the grounding plug.

+1 I have not had a static issue either!  You will be just fine!

Thx Bob,

I may get the green light on a nice little gig here.  Lots of panels and builtins, Kitchen remodel, ect, ect.

Anyway need to get more MFT's and seriously considering the CMS.  So, when I submit my biweekly billing, I'll use your line "You will be just fine".

Can someone with a CMS please tell me how high off the table the miter slot is. Also, is it a normal miter slot (T slot), could other feather boards for example be used? I have seen a video where Festool quick clamps were used in the slot, just want to double check on this. THANKS in advance---

70mm (2-3/4").

After looking at the CMS this weekend, I'm wondering how durable the top will be.  It has to deal with wood passing over the top and movement of the fence (the fence is much heavier than expected, BTW).  How durable is the anodized aluminum top anyway?  Is there anything I can do to protect it?

Cheers,

Paul

Hi,
I bought the 2200 and am really disappointed to find out that Festool is not offering their premium router a table.  I understand the UL issues at hand but it's now been a year...

Regardless, I plan on going ahead and getting the table.  What do I require to make the CMS work with the 2200?  I'm assuming the electrical switch and setup are the problem for the 2200...what will not work with it?

Thanks for any help in advance.

The switch is about it. The rings were included with mine

Cheers.

Welcome to the FOG!

Whereas you are talking about about possibly using the 2200 in the CMS, I just wanted to make sure that you are aware of this:

"Statement from Festool.

Warning: The Festool CMS System is approved for use with only the OF 1400 and OF 1010 routers in the US and Canadian markets.  It is not approved for use with the OF 2200, nor with any of the CMS modules currently available outside the US and Canadian markets (TS, Jigsaw and sanding modules).  Festool USA does not  endorse the use of these components and will not support them with spare  parts or repairs. The use of anything other than the OF 1400 and OF 1010 routers and their related accessories with the CMS will void the warranty agreement on the entire system for customers within the US and Canada. Festool does not endorse the application or use of any Festool product in any way other than in the manner described in the Festool Instruction Manual. To reduce the risk of serious injury and/or damage to your Festool product, always read, understand and follow all warnings and instructions in your Festool product's Instruction Manual."

Many members, if not all, who have purchased the CMS in North America have received the mounting rings for the 2200 as part of their sealed packages.  I don't know if that will be a continued practice.

As Peter noted Festool doesn't recommend it and since this is a Festool run website they probably won't allow posting info on how to do something they specifically don't recommend because of liability issues.

I plan to purchase a CMS router table later this year (sooner if the tax man is good to me). As a space constrained hobby woodworker, I am leaning towards the VL model, but  I have several questions . . .

1. How significant is the space savings of the VL vs. the GE table in actual use? It seems that the GE could be butted up against the end of my MFT/3 with little difference in space consumed vs. the VL -- am I correct? I can deal with the price difference between the two versions, but space is somewhat of an issue.

2. With the fence off (it appears to come on and off quickly enough), how well would the VL and GE each function as an extension to the MFT/3 for support of long boards during cross cutting? Obviously, I would have to be careful not to run the track saw across the surface of the CMS if I were doing long rip cuts!

3. I know the extension table will not fit the VL model. That said, how problematic is the lack of an extension table?

4. Are there any other major accessories not yet available in North America, such as the track saw module, that would not work with the VL table should they become available here in the future? Given the cost of either table, I want my purchase to be as future proof as possible.

5. Does the VL do anything better or more efficiently than the GE version and vice versa?

I don't have either CMS version, but JMB has both; and he illustrated why he likes the standalone version better when space is a concern here

I have the GE, it aligns to the MFT and Kapex on the UG or MFT Kapex. It really does not take much more space and leaves each free to be relocated separately.

Tom

I have the CMS-GE and prefer the ability to use it as a stand-alone setup which allows me to use my two MFT/3s as extended infeed/outfeed tables in certain circumstances.  I also use two extension tables on the GE most of the time for the same purpose.  When I need to, I can fold down or remove the extension tables.  There are times when I have removed the fence to use the GE as an extension for my MFT/3s.  It's easy to do and equally easy to reassemble.  Since I use two extension tables, I've moved the power switch function above and behind the work surface for convenience and safety reasons.  That would be a difficult placement with the VL version.
