I can honestly say my shop has everything I need and everything I want, yet I still find myself wondering through tool stores and catalogs looking for "something new" that I might find useful.

You ask if "it ever ends", my answer would be "I hope not". Buying a new tool and/or accessory is one of life's little joys which I look forward to.

I'm guessing you feel the same way, or you wouldn't be buying every accessory for every tool.  The real question is why are you even asking...  Just enjoy...

Of course you're right...I think it just hit me when I was reviewing invoices.  I mean, if it was just Festool, that would be one thing I guess.  It is when you start including items from Starrett, Mitutoyo, Woodpecker, Lie Nielsen, and all the others, not to mention the cabinets that lock up all these expensive tools, fans for the shop, lighting for the shop, electrical rewiring costs......that you realize the numbers are getting large.

Oh, and I do enjoy it.  Perhaps a little too much for my wife's taste.  That is why I remember to get her a nice gift once and a while, out of the blue (which itself adds to the cost).  But it does make it harder for her to get mad.

I am sure my Wife and I will look back on this project, while watching my Son working in the shop, and smile at the thought that all this will be his someday.  And,  should he decide to go into the trades instead of college (or both), we helped set his course while we still could.  Money well spent!

Thinking more on this topic, I'd be curious to know if there's other crazy people like me that keep a list of interesting tools for the future. Mine simply has the tool type, make and brand (no make and brand if it's still early thinking .. vacuum bagging is a good example). Some things require a major change in where we live to achieve .. a "dust free spray booth" is an example that would make finishing heaven, but simply not mesh with my domestic suburban dwelling, so same are likely to stay on the list for a very long time [sad]

Well one thing I do is look for versitility in the tools I buy. One tool that I can use for many things.. There is some compromise but it works best for me.

Jigs to help me do what I want help a lot with the compromise. I have some woodpeckers stuff. All for layout and set up. But I don't buy everything they come up with as a OTT? I'm going to off load some wood peckers things shortly that I don't use anymore because I find other things that can do the same thing.

For example, one such thing is the WP story stick. Yes it's cool, but I don't use mine.

Instead I bought a bunch of flag stops (8ea) for my MFT fence.  I can use them as a story stick, so why do I need the WP one?

Yea this stuff is expensive but we have to find ways to mitigate the cost.

I haven't bight any actual festools in a while as I got all the tools I need to do what I want. I do buy the accessories for the tools as needed and as I find out about them.

Festool doesn't do a good job in advertising their tool accessories. I find out a out most of them by chatting with my dealers and the FOG.

But I have been eye balling the conturo and the vac system. I can get by without the vac system, but the conturo when I get back to the states is going to help me out quite a bit. But I got mixed emotions about it.

Those 2 babies sure aren't cheap.

I do have a kool tool favourites on my c'puta. But for the most part, I try to find ways to do what I want w/o buying a new tool if possible. Most times it is, sometimes it's not.
I learned from when I first started W/W 20 something years ago. When I first started I bought every kool gizmo I saw at the tool shows, blew a lot of money on things I wouldn't use or didn't really need but thought I did and would.

I don't do that anymore.as I said in another post I buy for need and versitility. That way I can have the money to buy what I think I really need.

Ahhh but the question remains, do you also plan on getting the VAC SYS Accessory Set (#495294)?

I remember when I was a kid whenever it was Christmas or my birthday and I got a present I always hated when I got clothes as a gift as I always wanted toys instead. Well,  it looks like I haven't changed at all from that little kid because I still could care less about clothes and I love my toys. I've heard it said that the only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys. My wife is well aware of this, in fact when I recently purchased a large tool cabinet, my wife named it the "toy box".

I don't feel guilty about the money I spend on my "toys", that's what the money is for: the pursuit of happiness (after the bills are paid, of course).  I would humbly suggest that those feeling guilty about their purchases, attempt to allow themselves to feel the joy instead.  If we're lucky enough to afford these "guilty" pleasures, then just enjoy them and leave it at that.

In my mind, I trying to justify it. Will it make my life easier?
I think so.

Will it make my life $1800 easier? I dunno at my BBQ I asked Phil to bring one for me to have a look at it. He is also bring a conturo again.

I have the same questions about the conturo.

remember I look for versatility
