Conturo question

Hello everyone, new member with a question. Purchased Conturo recently and used it with good success on few projects. Currently working on a closet which is made with laminate material and PVC edgeband, and ran into an issue which Festool tech support wasn't really able to help me with.

First problem was when I tried using thin .018 edgeband which my laminate supplier uses. I can't get the temperature set to be able to use it. It's either too hot and it melts the edgeband. Or too low, and no glue actually gets applied to edgeband when it goes through the machine. It seems like I have to be at minimum of 340F to get correct application of glue. Which I'm confused about, just like Festool support was, since the glue is rated for as low as 190F. I'm attaching a picture.

Second 'problem', is when I switched to 1mm edgeband. I don't have the above issues, but the line between the edgeband and laminate seems much more visible to the naked eye and it bugs me. I tried different glue amounts and different temperatures in hopes of eliminating it, but can't make it go away. Am I just exaggerating and this is just what it is, or am I doing something wrong? Picture attached as well.

Will be grateful for any comments or tips.

All of the boxes I have show temps of 190C 375F. I recall one of the dark glues is 200C. No way this glue is designed to melt at 190F.

I’ve never had any success running banding thinner than 1mm.

Wow, thank you for catching me on that, can’t believe Festool didn’t.

Any tips on eliminating that line on same color material? It’s not an issue with wood or when edgebanding with different color than the base material. Or I guess on darker material. But I was planing on edgebanding some white acrylic fronts and now I’m afraid it will look horrible.

sub 1mm is touchy. I've got a few successful applications at standard temp, but really need to run it fast. The second problem looks like a not-enough glue situation. You may need to increase a notch or two if you're running on PB core. MDF core would be a notch lower IIRC.

Also maybe glue color is an issue, since there’s no light gray color? If I’m doing white acrylic, using extra amount of white glue might fill it better.

99% of what we run we use the natural color pucks. They seem to be the best at hiding glue lines. We use the natural in our large edge bander also.

@sirusorion as evidenced by the answers you have already received, there are lots of good people and lots of good information here.

Welcome to FOG!
