Cord & hose management on CT with Systainers on top

What better way is there to manage the cord and a hose for a CT vacuum when Systainers are attached on top the vac?

For 5 years I've found it annoying that every time I need to wrap/unwrap my Midi's cord, and attach/detach a hose, any Systainers parked on top the vac have to come off then on again. I have 2 original MIDIs, a MIDI 1, and a 15. The MIDI 1 is nice because the cord is wrappable externally, but the hose is still attached inside.

Often I place Systainers on top the vacs to get from the trailer into the customer's workspace, but have to take all the Systainers off and on twice a day to get setup. More times if a different hose is needed. A CT with a front-attach hose would solve the hose issue, but there's still the vac cord to contend with.

I wish there was a Mini/Midi-sized vac that had an exterior cord wrap and exterior hose port, without on-the-top hose/cord storage, so any Systainers can remain on top.

Snip.

This is already your spec. Can't you fabricate something -- mounted to the CT -- out of wood (1/8" or 6mm ply?) and bungee cords to be your solution, with the Systainers sitting on its top? (If you can draw it, you can build it!)

Even with a bigger CT, like a 26, you would still run into this issue, if you actually use the hose garage. Sure, it attaches on the outside, but if the hose is not in a Systainer, it has to be somewhere. The cleaning set, which has the 50mm hose plus wands, nozzles, etc, comes in a rather large Systainer (4 or 5 I forget) This will store it, but it makes the stack much bigger too.

Raceguy, I have that cleaning set, the Systainer keeps a tool cord, a hose or two, and cleaning attachments, which I like to attach on top a vac when on site.

Ok, well knowing that, I would say that a CT26 is your solution. Cord wrap on the back, hose in Sys and good to go.

If you are using T-Locs, one option is to have "holders" for the hose made that will fit into the "slots" for labels like the ADAPT-L does and allow you to hang the hose externally "around" the vac.

This can then work both for transport and as temporary when not using the vac. I often find the need to hang the hose "somewhere" in between tasks, so planning to 3D-print something like that. Will likely put it on CT-VA though, as I am a shop animal.

I have a piece of tubing on the wall next to my CT26 that I drape the hose/cord over, when not in use. I am also an inside guy and my CT rarely moves. It has a "garage" and I use it on that end of the main bench and across to the cutting bench. I have access to a second unit that is "out on the floor" that gets used for things beyond the reach of the first one. It is not mine personally, but it's there in the shop 90% of the time, so I use it.

Just occured to me, a short piece of anti-static hose could be used as a whip, going from the vac port to poking out the front of the vac hose garage.

With new Midi you can maybe reach in and remove hose without unstacking Systainers? Not sure. Maybe you can even 'open' the hose garage lid with Systainers on top?

100% agreed. My CT26 has a CT-VA-20 on top, which I immediately got frustrated with, endlessly removing it to access the hose. It became even more annoying when adding a 36mm hose as well as a 27mm to my equipment list. I now store my hoses coiled round the optional handle of the CT (a brilliant and 100% worthwhile addition) and use the hose garage to store sandwiches and beer.

Incidentally - the top part of the CT-VA-20 (the cyclone bit) is great for storing cleaning accessories. Just flip open the T-Loc, and there's enough space in there to store the round brush, the crevice nozzle, the small flat nozzle, plus my rubber reducing adaptor for the three pieces of Makita equipment I have.

So if CT-26 would have hose garage like CT 22 (none) it would have been better  [tongue]
The later CT-22-SG did have a hose garage, but it was a separate piece.

Woul be nice if the hose garage was a drawer.

Like the CTM 36 HD you mean ..  which no one wanted so it was discontinued. :)

Still have it on my plans to get it via spare parts. But those $200 just to save 10 centimeres off a CTM 36 is no small price.

I will probably buy a beaten-up CTL 26 with a broken top, transfer my CTM 36 top parts there to fix it and create a "CTM 26 AC HD" of sorts along with a "CTL 36". Always liked LEGO.
[cool]

Yeah I think if nobody stocks it and it's never 'cheap', nobody buys it. Especially if nobody knows about it.

As long as you don't have bear paws for hands, there's enough room to get in through the front of the MIDI-I and reach the hose connection to pull it out and reinstall it; I just tried it after reading this suggestion.

And unfortunately, no, you can't open the hose garage with systainers on top of the new MIDI-I/MINI-I.  You can flip the T-Loc to the correct position to do so, but the hinge placement for the garage lid is such that you'll just end up unceremoniously popping the systainer stack off the top.  If you're unlucky, you'll crack at least some part of the garage assembly in the process.  DAMHIK

I took the old cord wrap off of my CT 26 when I bought the new fancy "pivoting horn" cord wrap.  Less than a minute on the belt sander to flatten out the back a little bit and it screws right into the back of my original style MIDI and I can wrap the cord there.  I expect the new style would fit as well.

This is the best solution I know of. You can buy the cord wrap as a spare part, too. 203722 is the new cord wrap.

When I purchased the handle accessory for my MIDI-I, I took the stock MIDI-I cord wrap and attached it to my OG MINI.  I didn't even bother to flatten the back; there was more than enough thread into the body with the stock screws and enough surface contact to keep it from being wobbly.
