Cordless planer ehlc 65

I would certainly like to think they would be making one, but I'm not counting on it. Festool don't even have an impact driver on the market. That to me says they're either not consulting the market, or their main customer base doesn't use much cordless gear. Besides, I'm goi g to learn a whole lot of new stuff with this project, so I'm not worried if they come out with one the month after I convert mine :-D

You do realize their main market is Europe, they don't use impacts. As much as it might not make sense or whatever, NA isnt their #1 focus. That might be why they haven't focused on an impact outside of the 15v they discontinued. I wouldn't be surprised if we all see an 18v impact driver early next year though.  [big grin] that's just what a Festool rep said to me when he came to my house to demo some tools.

My guess is that Festool is already working on expanding their cordless program.  I was once told that their timeline from idea to product was about six years.  That might not have been accurate and things might have changed, but based on where the entire industry is going I would be shocked if they aren't moving forward on a cordless planer.

Peter

6 years???

I'm almost 100% sure that's incorrect. I'm not an expert on conception to market in the power tool industry, but in general I do have some fairly extensive experience in comparable industries and six years is not even remotely practical to maintain a competitive advantage. A more reasonable timeframe would be 6-18 months. Power tools aren't rocket science, things waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more complex have significantly shorter lead times than 6 years!!

I only posted about the development timeframes based on what I was told by a gentleman at Festool who I honestly believe and is frankly above reproach.  Perhaps the process has changed since we had that conversation, but to assume that it had, and to post along those lines would be inaccurate and I chose not to do that.  My guess is that Festool will not confirm nor deny my statement.

If you are an expert in the field and are looking for a challenge and advancement, please let me know.  I can get your resume to the CEO of Festool.  What happens after that is beyond my control.

Peter

I think you're both probably right ... a new tool like the Domino could be a lengthy process. The adaption/revision of an existing too would be much shorter (the TSC55 came out pretty quick on the heels os the TS55REQ).

I can imagine a fair bit of "pondering time" at Festool, looking at ways to improve and differentiate a tool's features before they get into the hardcore design effort.

They tried with an impact but failed so they pulled it.

If we don't use impacts, why are there so many around? Hmmmm.  [scratch chin]

Not having one is a big omission in Festool's line up. But, as Peter already said, you can count on them having more cordless gear in development, it's the natural direction into which the market evolves right now.

That's got to be one of the funniest things I've read on hear

Ok, so back on topic, who likes the cordless jigsaw feature that allows you to keep cutting another 100mm or so after it initially stops because of a flat battery?
I personally like it, and hope to program my project to do a similar thing.
The idea of being able to finish a pass before going to get a new battery appeals to me.
