couple more entertainment centers I just finished.

next one is an all oak unit.

last one is a mini entertainment unit.

all made using the guide rails to rip down, mft 3 to work on, and my shop and customers garage floor.  domonio and pocket screws.

Very nice work.  Could you let us have any details on how you make the doors - do you use a router or a shaper?  What about finishing.  I'm starting up with HVLP and am feeling my way in the dark.

richard,  the white units are primed, sanded then 2 coats of sherwin williams paint, rolled and brushed.  the doors are made with sommerfeld router table and his door bit set.

the diamond shape was made with the festool of1400 and piece of wood clamped to the table as an edge guide and a fluting bit.  I will post some pics when I get home tonight.

yep, flat screen tvs have kept me very busy for the last year  I think I have done about 20 units or so just because of big screen tv's.  even if they put them on the wall or above the fireplace they still need a place for all the components and dvd and games storage.... oh and a place for the wife to display all the crap they buy to display!!

and no, I do not take it to a job.  I have the rousseau table saw stand for the dewalt mini table saw and the extension.  I routed out the right side of the table to install a router mount, but don't use it very much on the job.

robert, I bought that set about 1 year ago and it makes great looking doors especially with that tall bit it come with.  in fact I am going to be making some more doors with that set next week for a bathroom vanity I am going to be making

Please let us know what you think of the Katie jig.  I saw Marc Sommerfeld demonstrate that product a few years ago, but as with many show demos, the guys using them make even the "Vegamatic" look like anyone could outdo the finest Parisian chefs if they used it.    I'm particularly interested in making half-blind dovetails for drawers, maybe with variable spacing.  A key claim is that it is fast to setup and use, not fussy like some other jigs.

I have never made a dovetail joint before last weekend. I spent a lot of time just getting to know where to place everything. Now that I know how to orientate the boards, I find it VERY easy to use. I made some stuff with scrap wood, and it turned out fine. Nice tight joint. Setting the depth of the bit was easy. Just place the jig on top of the same thickness of board you are routing, and set the bit just above the jig's forks. Thats it, it will leave just enough to sand flush. I have been making through dovetails though. I didn't get the half blind part yet. I really like the fact that its all done on your router table too. They do show ways to mount the jig if you want to use a hand held router though. If you want some more info, or pictures just let me know.

Just for reference.. how long did one of these projects take you?  Seems as though my projects take longer than they should.. probably because everything I do is usually the first time I've done it... Do you charge the customer by the job or by the hour?

the oak one took 4 days.  I usually take one day to get the material, cut it up and pocket hole and domonio it.. then 2nd day at there house putting it together and face frame it.. 3rd day to finish it stain, or paint.  then that same day I make the doors and done deal.

if I charge them by the hour they could not afford it.  i do it by the project. and my prices are mid range compared to cabinet high end shops and what you could buy, which usually does not work. 

the cherry unit took way to long about a 6 -7 days.  the small unit took only 2 days to do.  and yes most of mine also take longer than expected due to the fact each one is different, or most of them but basically its the same routine just have to adjust for each situation
