Coupler to Extend D36 to another D36?

Hello friends.  Ive been searching for too long ... wrong search string?  Bottom line:  I have the boom arm with a D36 hose.  I also bought another 7m D36 to extend that hose.  I need a coupler that will allow me to temporarily connect the 7m D36 to the existing D36, but then, just as quickly, remove the coupler to return to working with the hose on the boom arm.  I can't find anything.  Is the part so obvious that nobody is talking about it?  Many thanks!  Rich

It doesn't exist as a Festool part - in the world of Festool, to extend hoses, you generally would remove the rubber tool end of the first hose, replace it with a rotating adapter (the first photo has the 50mm, 36mm and 27mm versions pictured), and use the connector sleeve (second photo) to join the two. That doesn't really provide for a rapid transfer back to a normal hose though.

If you do keep the tool end on though, and come up with some way of joining them with an adapter, you will affect the extraction over the length of your combined hoses. Essentially you are adding a restriction point into the overall length of the hose. I don't know whether that will make a difference to what you are doing, but you should at least be aware of it.

Thanks Garry. I'd be okay with sacrificing some extraction performance for the convenience/speed of being able to extend the hose without going behind the tables, to swap hoses at the extractor, and without having to remove/replace the rubber tool end.  Thanks, Rich

So here I am again, nearly 8 months later, without a solution.  Hoping to bump this in hopes that someone can help.

I have a 3m D36 mounted to my MFT/3 boom arm ... I desperately want to temporarily extend the boom hose from time to time, to add a 7m length of another D36 (primary purpose is to vacuum the shop/floor).  I don't want to re-fit the end of the hose because I need each of the hoses for actual dust extraction with various tools on the boom arm.

I still can't believe that I'm the only bozo that wants/needs to do this and that nobody has engineered a viable solution yet.  :-\

Does anyone have any ideas on how I might be able to rig this together?

Now it wasn't connecting a 36mm to a 36mm, but 36mm to 27mm. For shop floor cleanup that might work as well for you. I've used the 27mm hose fine for floor work though the 36mm is better.

Else I'd suggest you visit the plumbing/electrical isle at the local hardware store with the 36mm tool end and see if you can find a suitable connector. Some sanding with a drum sander may be required.

Unless some one with a 3D printer can print one for this exact purpose.

Maybe try a fernco coupling. You could leave it attached to the outside of the extender hose, and quickly connect/disconnect it to your normal hose as needed.  1 1/2" might work, or 1 3/4" with some mods

Having access to a lathe I found a piece of pipe, turned down the outside so that the D36 vac end would fit over it and the inside so that the 36 mm tool end would fit in and I can now extend my hoses with ease. Being made of steel it maintained the anti static function of the hoses.

I am sure that any engineering shop with a lathe would be able to knock one up.

It might also be a handy product for some enterprising person with a CNC capability.

Unfortunately, I don't have a lathe ... can't justify getting one yet either ...  ... turning a piece of pipe down sounds like a great idea!

I didn't know what a fernco coupler was ... googled it and realized that's the rubber coupler I was talking about.  Now that I know what it's called, I might be able to find the right size online...  Need to do some measuring ... still hoping to hear any other ideas...

We certainly have the ability to produce such a coupler/adapter. But for 1 piece the effort would disproportionate.

I we can find a few others it might work to help everybody out a little bit

I also want to join hoses, occasionally. Doesn't happen often for me, but when I need them connected duct tape is quick and easy. A proper adapter would be a lot nicer though. For both the 27 and 36 mm hoses.

If such a product was reasonably priced, I would be interested in 1 or 2 of them.  Even though I have several extra of the various vac-end, tool-end Festool connectors, I do not consider these to be "reasonably" priced, especially considering the Bosch prices which are MUCH, MUCH less expensive, and in my experience, just as good.

I went to Woodcraft this evening after work ... grabbed a D36 hose and used both ends to figure out how to connect the two together.  I'll be damned ... came up with a pair of connectors that worked.

There's a bit of suction loss given the M-M coupler is perhaps 3/64" too big ... could stand to be tapered and a bit tighter ... but for my application, it will work just fine.

I'd still be very interested in a reasonably priced, durable, one-piece and properly sized fitting.

I am now in the same situation of wanting to extend one D36 hose to another temporarily.   

Any other solutions found?

I purchased a used boom arm for my CT22 here on the FOG, it came with an extra D36 hose, I want to be able to use the extra hose to extend the one I now have mounted on the boom arm.

BTW, mounting two hoses (27mm and 36mm) on the boom arm works pretty well.  Nice to get the hoses off of the floor.

The boom arm comes with a short 1,5m 50mm hose with coupler 50-50mm right? Mine did, as it will extend the extractor end. The larger diameter close to the extractor will aid suction.
Otherwise the newer hoses (2018 - onwards) Can be connected together indefinitely if one wish.
