I'm just started a small company doing higher end carpentry. I have a client who hired my to finish a job that a company took off on half way through. It was pretty high end basement remodel every door was custom, all the trim was custom milled, it was really a dream job. Always had a check ready, never questioned the price. He called me last week and asked if I was interested in doing a kitchen remodel for a client of his, I said of course. His client called me and told me they just bought the house and they would like to have some tile redone, some trim replaced, a few new doors, and are looking to have the kitchen remodeled in the next few months. I told them I would have to look at it I would be there saturday.
I get to there house with a sub he's fully insured does great work for very reasonable, I don't do tile but he does. The job totally changed, priority #1 is adding safety nets over four banister through out the home to insure that there son could not climb over and fall. I told her that I'm a carpenter by trade and I really don't do that kind of stuff, but what I could do is remove the banisters and replace them with euro style cabinets and some sort of counter top, and add shelving from the countertop to ceiling with a open back. Not only is this getting weird but she's starts pressing me for prices. Then starts asking me about doing a hidden room. I tell her I can get you ruff numbers monday but there going to be ruff. She asks what I normally charge for tile work my buddy tells her it would be between $5-$6 a sq ft. She says quick lowes will do it for $4 a ft.
Sunday comes I get three txt messages from her all pictures of nets at some playhouse. I txt her back I'm not really comfortable doing it, and it's not what I do.
Monday night my buddy comes buy I write out a estimate for everything, as far as the netting goes I put that I would need a lawyer to draw up something saying that I would be relieved of all liability. We she took as I would do it. Today she called to tell me she would have her lawyer who's probably the same guy who recommended me draw up a waiver.
I ended up emailing her that my insurance would not cover me, which I am sure is true. I hope it works!!!!
This really disturbed me for a few reasons one we inspect or lanyards and harnesses before we put them on. I can't imagine a couple who is so irresponsible that they feel that they need some sort of netting to keep there kid safe, would be responsible enough to inspect any sort of netting regularly. Not only that the lowes comment, the txt messages, wanting pricing right away, everything just rubs me way the wrong way. Any how I'am starting next monday, wish me luck!

I'am joking
It could be worse my old man looked at a job and told me the lady seemed nuts and he thought he would never get paid. So he told the lady he couldn't do it, I guess she flipped about it and a couple days later called the police and told them that he broke in and stole her computers. Nothing ever came from it. I just can't believe how much of a headache its been and I didn't even do any work. Just wanted to vent thanks for reading.

I was referred ... associate of an associate ... as someone ideal to develop some "new technology". The group that I went to discuss the project with was a bunch of doctors (nice offices, board room, etc at Bondi Junction near Sydney).

This all happened in the late 80's BTW.

So I was eventually getting an understanding of what they wanted ... media available to paying clients, downloadable and so on. But what was this mystery media? Was is X-rays, patient records, blood tests ? Nope - these fine upstanding doctors wanted to sell porn.

I walked away, not just because of the product (though I do have some issues with it), but also because of the way they engaged me - believing they could get me to do the work in complete ignorance of their plans.

There's all sorts out there  [sad]

I was remodeling a huge garage into a workshop for someone. he had a female roommate that was a bad alcoholic. well one day the owner was out getting material for me and the roommate came into the workshop demanding that I leave and jumpstart her friends car. I was being polite and said I would be happy to help but I didn't have jumper cables so unless her friend had some i couldn't help. she left the shop and came back 5 min later  while I was hanging a 4x8 sheet of slat wall by myself and my hands were full. She was holding the phone and apparently I wasn't moving fast enough for her and she snapped her fingers at me. I put a couple screws in the slat wall to secure it enough to support itself and walked over grabbed the phone and hung it up and said as nicely as I could "I m sorry but you have the wrong guy, I don't snap to. I would of had no problem helping you out but I will not be disrespected like that and I would not help her. the owner came back and asked me what happened and I told him. I thought it was over.

The next morning the owner came out and asked me what really happened so i told him again and he said that she is claimed that I hit her and she has bruises all over her chest. i demanded for him to go get her and so she could clear my name in this matter. she wouldn't so I went right to the police station and went on record for this matter. the cops took my written statement  and when I told them the address they knew her by name and said they get calls to that location twice a month.

anyway the police come back to the job and confronted her and she continued to claim that I beat her up but she doesn't want to press charges. I packed up my tools and never went back.oh yeah I got paid before I left the property.

all this because I didn't do what that psycho wanted. that could have been major because if she did want to press charges I would have been arrested and in America your guilty until proven innocent. at least that's my experience with courts.

The cops can only do an arrest if they feel that what she said was true.If there's no bruises, then there's no crime!

the home owner said she had bruises and if i remember correctly the cop verified that also. its not that hard to bruise yourself expecially on blood thinners and certain meds plus were talking raging alcoholic. like liver shutting down and skin starting to get a green tint. she could barely hold a conversation at this point in her life.  I've had a few run ins with crazy's and there is really not much you can do but get as far away from them as possible  and start documenting the situation as thoroughly as you can. thats why I went immediately to the cops. as soon as the homeowner told me what she had accused me of doing I called a few people for advice and if she wouldnt come clean on the situation with me and the homeowner than I was going to begin documenting the situation with the police. Im glad I did.

People are nuts indeed!  Truth is also stranger than fiction......

In a previous life I was a Paramedic.  Once our rescue squad was called to a home along with the sheriff's department for an "attempted suicide".  The husband was in the living room and claimed the wife (who was back in the bedroom) took a bunch of pills and was trying to kill herself.  We talked to her for quite awhile and she was really upset,  but hadn't actually taken any pills.  We checked her out.  She was doing fine and didn't want any medical treatment as nothing was actually wrong.  We went back out to the living room and started to pack up our equipment.  The husband asked "Aren't you going to take her to the hospital?"  We said "No" and explained that she wasn't in any distress.  He said "Why don't you take her to the hospital anyway?"  We explained that the only ways we could take her was if she agreed to go (informed consent) or if she was unconscious.  He said "Wait right here for a minute".  He walked down the hallway and we heard a loud BONK!  Then he walked back into the living room and said:

"OK, now you can take her, she's unconscious!"

He flat knocked her out!   [jawdrop]

The deputy just reached for his handcuffs as he shook his head.......

I guess that's true love for you.
