I received my Festool 08/09 catalog today! That's the good news. Also found out what I will have to pay in taxes. That's the bad news. Bob Marino will have to wait a while for me to use the catalog. >:(

The tax man did the exact same to me, those stimulus checks will be sent in a couple of months.  Maybe they can just make those payable to Festool.

Same here.  Wanted to buy a tool  or two before the price increase but had to pay taxes instead.  Oh well, I'll just have to wait a little longer and pay a little more.

Tom.

Is it a coincidence that the government is sending out checks for up to $1200.00 and the Kapex is just $1300.00?

Actually I don't think Uncle Sam would approve of us buying German stuff to stimulate our economy.
Or Japanese, Korean, Chinese, or.... Hmmn.  Can't buy shares in Bear Sterns anymore.....

The economy is a world economy now. As long as Americans like Bob Marino and Timmy C are making money I don't think they care. I am all for buy American, but it isn't what it meant in the past. The parts for products are so intermixed now its hard to know who is making what money where anymore.

No.  If the Kapex were $1200.00, THAT would be a coincidence!

Seriously, I think that the solution to all these problems is incredibly simple.  The US government should acts now to preserve the essential rights of all Festoolians:

1.  Exempt all Festool imports from any electrical regulation or oversight
2.  Lean hard enough on UL to make them approve in advance any proposed Festool import without the necessity of testing or delay.
3.  Reimburse every Festool purchase up to maximum of 100 items per year by electronic debit within 48 hours.
4.  Put Fred in charge of the program and give him a new T-shirt.

That, IMHO, would jump start this economy while not requiring much of a change in existing policy.
:o :o ::)

I believe the less the government is involved in our personal lives, the better.

I also find it difficult to understand what is behind returning taxes already  .  .  .  Oh, never mind!

See edit in red above.

I agree, but to be fair we should add:

5.  The IRS agrees not to allow any Festool tool to be expensed or depreciated, in recognition of the fact that they are a long-term investment that doesn't depreciate.

Ned  ;)

Wrong way, Ned.  Every policy enhancement should cost money to the government (taxpayers) and deliver money (after the 97% rakeoff) to the taxpayers.  So, how about:

5.  Make all Festool purchases 100% deductible in year of purchase without reference to depreciation, in addition to the reimbursement.  That way, we get double the bang for each purchase.

:o ::)

(That will be my last OT suggestion on this thread, I promise).

It is not a coincidence. It is a co-ns-piracy.

Dave Rudy, Darn but I like your ideas.  ;) :D ;D New T-SHirt, I will do it.  8) Ned, so what is the percieved problem with only jump starting this tiny section of the economy? They too can buy festools and/or join the FOG. It is not like we are discriminating. Shhh, don't tell them though.  :o Fred

Sole proprietors, partnerships and corporations can deduct up to $125,000 worth of equipment for 2007; $250,000 for 2008.  Go into business.  Get out credit card.  Get Festools.  Use tools to make money.  Pay credit card.  Save on taxes.  Celebrate with wine!

The national debt may be balanced after I pay my taxes.  But, I still see a Kapex in the future.  Thank god I have a few months to save.

Start company buy lots of Festools don't bother to make money pay CEO millions and have Government bail you out, write off losses on taxes! Keep Festools for home use. ;D

That only works for three years.  Chances are, there will be even more desirable Festools after that. ::)

My wife really likes that idea!  :-*

The IRS was kind to me this year, but the University of Cincinnati is getting all my money right now.  :-\

Before anyone gets really excited: the deductions can only be applied to the profits made by the company.  You can do this as an individual too (assuming you report WWing profits as income).

Greg I am not an accountant, but that seems good to me. Where else would you want to deduct them from? If you are saying if my income was 130,000.00 and I can deduct 125,000.00, paying taxes on only 5000.00 that seems great. Is it that simple?
