CT 15 Max Connected Load

Hi everyone,

I picked up a CT 15 dust extractor last weekend. I intend to use it for dust collection on my TS 55 and as a general shop vac. I thumbed through the manual this morning and discovered that the maximum connected load through the built-in electrical outlet is just 240W (2A @ 120V).

Obviously this is not enough to support a TS 55. It looks like the other Festool CT dust extractors are rated for 1200W load at the outlet. Is the CT 15 indeed limited to 240W or is it actually 1200W like the other CT models? I made a few short plunge cuts with my TS 55 plugged in, but haven't tried anything that would be thermally taxing yet.

I’ve used it with a TS 55, DW 716 miter saw without issue.  Maybe someone from Festool can opine

Short answer - don't worry about it.

Long answer:  Festool's vacs don't support most for their tools connected to the receptacle if you're looking at it from a 1 to 1 watt/amp rating.  But all their tools are designed to plug into their vacs.

Festool's "other" vac's outlets aren't rated for 1200w connected either.  They are rated at 3.7amp or 440w roughly with a total connected load of 1440watts.  Slightly more than the ct15.  That 440w exceeds all their saws and routers, plus the large Domino and the Planer.

I believe the CT15 and CT Midi have the same motor and electrical.

I use my Midi at a mitre station with a 1500W Makita saw. It hasn’t tripped the Midi yet - I’ve cut 50mm by 300mm hardwood boards with it.

Note that I’m in Australia so running off 240V however.

Thank you for the responses everyone. It sounds like I can run my TS 55 from the vac without issue. I ended up calling Festool support and received an answer similar to the post that xedos linked to, which was "the CT dust extractors are compatible with all of our tools".

I would love to know where the 240W number came from. Perhaps this is the highest load they can claim without additional certification or testing (which could be country or region specific).

It's how many rated watts the power cord will support once the turbine draw is subtracted out.  Or, at least that's my reading of what's going on.

Like I said , don't worry about it.
