New to the forum, but I've lurked for a while.
I just bought th TS55 about 2 weeks ago and love it.It made ripping down some 3/4 oak ply life changing!
I put the dust bag from my Bosch planer on the saw for some d.c.( don't remember who shared that tip but thanks),it worked better than expected. But I've decided to go ahead and get a vac,but wich one?
I'll most likely use it w/ TS55 and my DW718,planer and sanders .I plan on getting a rotex sander and a Festool router also, but that's in the future.Portability is an issue but not huge,I have a F250 sd w/ 16' enclosed tool trailer, but I'm planing on getting a 1 ton cargo van,so space will be at a premium ...someday.
If the Midi can handle chip/dust collection well for the tools I've listed,I'd just as soon get that.
Thanks for any input

I would go for the CT22. I use mine very satisfactorily with the RO125, the Domino and the TS55. The CT22 has HEPA filters whereas the MIDI does not. The footprint of both are similar, the CT22 is actually lower than the MIDI but 7 inches longer. Price difference only $100.

Richard.

For your first vac, get the 22.  I am very happy with mine and I travel with it all the time.

My second vac may be a smaller one, just to hook to my Kapex or something.

Warner ,you're part of the reason I got into festool,I was hoping you'd respond.
Seems that the 22 is the way to go,I just didn't want another large vac ( already have a large rigid, good vac for junk work)

Save yourself some money!  Since you purchased within the 30-day guarantee period, you can add the dust extractor of your choice and get the TS+CT package price.  Just pay the difference of your original TS purchase price and the package price.  Check with your Festool dealer for details.

I am the scapegoat again!! [big grin]

I have a big rigid vac as well, I don't remember the last time I used it.
I bought a bucket head vac for the muck work, broom sweep if possible, then finish vac with my CT.

More money I know but, I suggest getting the tradesman/installers cleaning kit.
You get a 36mm hose and nice stainless extension tubes and all the little brushes and crevice tool.

The only time the 22 gets heavy is when the bag is 75%+ full.

great tip Shane,I hope I have the extra $ together before it expires [smile]

+1 for the Tradesman/Installer kit: http://www.festoolusa.com/products/dust-extractors/cleaning-sets/tradesman-installer-cleaning-set-454766.html  .

You could save money like I did and get the Universal Cleaning Kit:  http://www.festoolusa.com/products/dust-extractors/cleaning-sets/universal-cleaning-set-454769.html .  But that would be a mistake, IMO.  The Universal Kit comes with a NON-antistatic hose, while the Tradesman/Installer kit comes with nice antistatic hose.  That's a small, line-item difference that many newbies miss (I did).  The antistatic hose makes life much easier.

Regards,

Dan.

I might have made mention of the dust bag off a miter saw or such for the TS saws.

I use one every now and then when I don't have my CT close.

I have a CT22 and a Midi; the 22 pretty much stays in the workshop, and the Midi goes with me out and about. The 22 has more suck but in practical use I find little between them - other than size! I've run an 8" floor sander with a Midi and it performed faultlessly - though admittedly I filled a lot of bags ;) For general use though I'll take the smaller Midi any day - I already cart around enough stuff with me.

That said, the 22 does have some accessories that aren't available for the Midi - the boom arm and the long-life bag for example - so have a think about what you might want to do with the vac in future before making a decision.

HTH, Pete

If you can only get one then I think it's hard to go wrong with the CT22. You get capacity and portability. The HEPA filter is a non-issue since you can get them for the Mini/Midi vacs now.

I have the Midi and like it VERY much.  It's portable, super compact, and gets the job done well.  With that said, I have been jonesing for the 22 lately.  Main reason:  I work mostly in my basement, where I have dedicated machine dust collection, but those 4" hoses sure don't work well with Festool's lineup; I also work in the garage where I have my MFT, and I'm getting tired of hauling the Midi up and down the stairs.  I could construct a pseudo-boom setup out there; and third I sometimes take my tools over to work on my parent's and my sister's house.  So ultimately I'd like the 22 in my basement shop, and the Midi in the garage / offsite use.

Someone else mentioned the HEPA filters aren't available for the Midi.  This is not true (anymore), as they came out late last year.  However, there is a good thread detailing why a HEPA filter really shoudn't be necessary over and above the stock filters, unless you are dealing with microbial cleanup.

I OFTEN wish the Midi could mount the hose holder.  I also wish I could get a larger / reusable bag.  At $5 a pop, the MIdi bags add up fast, and they fill up relatively fast, especially using TS, router and Domino (i.e. chip producers, not just dust).  Finally, the Midi & Mini cannot use the larger size hose, which is detrimental for certain applications.

Is it worth $505 to me.. not yet...  But my advice, as a Midi owner and hobbyist, is go for the CT22.  I'm gonna hold out 'til I determine a *need* for the Rotex, and hope there is a "package" savings at that time.  [wink]

The CT Mini and CT Midi will work with the larger hoses, I do it all the time with my CT Mini.

Get the 22.  I just got mine thinking I would only use it in my shop, but I am happily surprised to find that it isn't that heavy.  Now I'm using it in the field as well.  Yes you could buy the boom, but research building one (search "shop made booms" for some great ideas) and save yourself some dough to buy something else that cuts/planes/sands/has a power switch. [big grin]

I do regret not getting the installer/tradesman kit.  Saving up for that one...

I was just asking my self the same question last Friday. I purchased the CT-22. Just though is was a better choice all around.  More power, more volume, better over all package. Used it a lot this last weekend.

Very happy.

I would like an adapter so I could use the 27mm hose end with non-Festool tools?
