ct 22 or midi ?

The advantage of the midi or mini vs the CT 22 is size and it comes with a hose garage top.  I have the 22 and as someone else mentioned, its not heavy nor bulky.  There is a bit of weight when the bag gets close to full but its still reasonable.  I usually look at these situations as what might you need in the future.  I opted for the 22 for the extra capacity, Hepa and more suction power.  I knew I would only buy one vac and figured the extra cost was worth it.

The vac with the TS is great but I really love it for sanding.

Get both.  That's what I did.

I started with a CT22 in the shop and its great.  No complaints.  This winter, I started doing projects indoors and spluged on a MIDI.  Love the convenience of the small size carrying from room to room and throwing it in the back seat of the truck when working off site.  I think there is somewhat less suction than the 22, but I am sure it would be improved by getting the 36mm hose.

For those that have the Mini/Midi - How well do these work as shop vacs?  My wife complains about the noise of the shop vac, and it makes me about deaf.  I have a CT-22, but I don't want to disconnect the boom arm and hose and all that stuff when I need a shop vac.

With a larger hose they work pretty well but not as well as a large shop vac.

I wouldn't buy a Midi for use as a shop vac. It gets the job done in a bind but you'll be changing bags frequently and it only comes with the smaller diameter hose which gets frustrating when you're sucking up anything larger than wood chips. It also doesn't quite have the grunt often needed in a shop vac. If noise is a primary concern consider another CT 22, or take a look at a Fein Turbo II or III. The Feins are incredibly quiet, have large capacities, include long large diameter hoses and have many of the same features as Festool while also being significantly cheaper.

I believe only the Turbo III comes with the large hose (and it has a 5 micron filter). The Feins are quiet for sure.

How portable does your vac need to be?

For instance I work out of a small vehicle most of the time and space savings is very important.

I have a Fein Turbo II and the CT 22. Both are great.

I would pick up a Fein for use as a shop vac.

It doesn't need to be super portable.  I don't use it for a living.  I'm looking for an excuse to get rid of an older screaming Rigid that is a hassle to dump and shake the filter on.  I could use the CT-22 if I really needed to.  Of course I'd have to buy one of those cleaning kits since none of the attachments fit.

I bought a 20 dollar bucket head vac.  Fits on top of a bucket.

It cleans up all my water and crud.  Take the top off and go empty the bucket.

Thanks to everyone that commented,I think I'll get the 22,just seems like a good all around vac.

what's the story with the pics off the old house,Warner?

What do you guys mean, it's obvious he sucked off all the paint on his farm house with the CT22. ;D

I got the same, its OK for cleaning small messes of saw-dust but its wonderful for sucking up puddles and emptying liquid from fixed vessels.  But hey for 24.99 CND I ain't complain'n.

Guess he doesn't take care of his house either?  You in my neighborhood?  [big grin]

I really don't know how those pictures got in this thread.

I tried to start a new thread with them in it but, some thing happened.

Someone can move them, or remove them if they like.
My computer farted and they ended up here. [big grin]

Bumping this back from the dead...

I just picked up the TS 55 REQ and planned on using my Ridgid shop vac + adapter for the time being, but that Festool hose is so much superior. Rather than buying a $80 hose to adapt to my shop vac, I might as well put that money towards a CT, right?

I read something that said the CT MIDI was revised at some point to give it a better motor that puts it on par with the CT 26/36/48, does anyone know of the 22 has the same motor? Can anyone offer a comparison 4 years later? Looks like there's a CT 22 I can get my hands on for ~$200 locally, whereas the MIDI is $388 refurbed.

Thanks all, I'm foaming at the mouth to try all this new stuff!

I bought the ts55 with the midi later bought the wcr1000 only to find out they dont mate together! i love the compact size of the midi but i love how the work center marries onto the ct26. my vote goes for the ct22 slightly larger and will be compatible with the wcr1000

The older Mini / Midis have a less powerful motor than the CT22, 33, 26, 36, 48. The new Mini/ Midi are almost the same. The CT22 and 33 have a motor that is also very close to the  CT26 , 36, 48. The CT22 motor is more powerful than the  older Mini / Midi.  I have a CT33 and it is no problem for any of the tools. The current more powerful Mini/ Midi (which I have) are comparable. As long as there is nothing wrong with the used 22 it will perform just fine with any of the tools.

I've had the CT22 for several years and it's a great dust/chip extractor.
