CT-22 vs. CT-33

Obviously, they both suck...in a good way, but are there any other factors besides cost and capacity to consider?

The CT-22 has 5.3 gallon capacity vs. the CT-33's 7.9 gallon capacity and 5" of additional height for $65 more.

Is it more of a personal preference or what fits the shop/truck better?

Thanks.

There is one more thing the Ct22 is without, and thats the compartment with door! ;)

I have the 33 but that is what met my needs.  You need to ask yourself how you intend to use it.

If it is gonna stay parked in the shop 90% of the time and you hating changing bags as much as I do, then get the 33.

If you see yourself dragging it all around the house for different projects I would go with the 22.

Barry said it. The CT33 is a hefty beast to carry around, particularly when the bag is getting full. So it depends on whether it's a shop vac or a truck vac you're looking for.

Thanks, guys. I knew there were some details from actually using the darned things that I was missing

It looks like there is a CT-22 in my future...in about three hours, to be precise. I'll finally have a proper place to keep that Sys/2 I got for $100 off of eBay a month ago.

I have both.  The way Barry sees them is exactly how I use them.  The CT 33 came first and was parked immediately>>>> right at the end of my MFT 1080. (That is where I also attached the Boom) The CT 22 was added later as I had some in house projects and a very fussy BOSS who attacks all dust on sight.  She actually let me work without supervision and broom in hand as she watched how clean the CT made it possible for me to work.  I also use it when I move my work outside where there is more space.  For that, I transport the MFT 800 and the CT 22 out of the shop.

What's the "compartment with door?"

CT-33 has another good feature – possibility to connect compressed air sanders.  Compressed air module potentially can be used as a supply of air for spray gun.  In this case you don’t need bulky air compressor with huge tank. Will we see CT-44 and CT-55 here soon?

Regards,
Victor

So is it really possible to use the CT 33 to power spray guns and air tools?  I thought I had read in another post that the CT 33 could not function as an air compressor.

I, too, am trying to decide between the CT 22 and the CT 33.  As far as I can tell from reading this thread, the only functional difference is the bag capacity.  Am I missing anything else?  I am a home hobbiest, and the dust extractor will stay in my shop 99% of the time.  I don't mind paying the extra for the CT 33 if there is a significant benefit.  On the other hand, the bag capacity of the CT 33 may be overkill for my modest needs.

No, you still need an external air source, but the air fittings and regulator can reside on the CT33.  In this manner when you trigger the air tool, the dust collector starts automatically, just like when you use electric tools.

Mirko will be referring to the compartment at the front of the CT 33, as shown in the attached photos taken from the Dust Extraction section of the catalogue on Festool's Australian site. The PDF of that part of the catalogue is at http://www.festool.com.au/images/Australia/Download/13_s242_s265_Dust_Extraction.pdf and the storage compartment is available on the CT 33, CT 44 and CT 55 models with 1, 2 and 3 compartments respectively. There is no compartment on the CT Mini or CT 22.

Ok, now I understand about the compartment.  So, I guess the only other difference between the CT 22 and the CT 33 is the bag capacity.

Correct - capacity and storage compartment.

The 22's outsell the 33's by a huge margin, if that's any help. Brandon is correct - to use Festool's air sanders, you need an external air source - a big one at that. Actually, the 22 could be fitted same as the 33 for the air tools.

Bob,

As far as performance goes, aren't the 22 and 33 exactly alike? The main real difference being just the "packaging" (size, filter capacity, storage compartment)?

Thanks

  Yes, see above  posts.

The CT33 storage compartment is useless for just about anything except a spare filter bag - it's too small to take most vaccum nozzle accessories. Someone may have found a better use for it than me, though.

I got the CT33 because it means less bag changes, and bag cost-per-litre is slightly lower - although whether it's low enough to make up the extra cost of the 33 over the 22 would depend on the life and usage of the unit. I've been happy with the decision; although if I'd known that we'd be moving, I'd lose my workshop, and that all woodwork required lugging the vac onto the verandah, I might have opted for the CT22.

Hi,

According to the catalog packages. You can use a regular CT33 with the air system.  The air system also requires a compressor.

Seth

thanks that does answer the question in that the ct33 just passes the air thru and is basicly just a switch to the dust collector.

thanks again.
