I am going to be working in a confined space and want to be able to use my vac in there.  The problem is that I won't be able to reach the switch to turn the vac on and off.  What I would like to do is hook up something to the vac with a switch so I can activate the vac with that.  I tried a small light and it would work for a few seconds and then the vac would just shut off.  I'm guessing the light doesn't carry enough power to keep the vac going.

I guess I could just use the safety switch that I was going to use when I build my router table.  Anyone ever try this?

Why not use extension cords. Just leave the vac's switch in the on position and plug and unplug the cord as you wish.
