CT 26 E 27mm hose included - worth upgrading?

Hi!

I recently made my first Festool purchase:

CT 26 E
TS 55
MFT/3

Really enjoying so far - been reading up, I am wondering why the CT 26 E includes the 27mm hose and not the larger hose? It seems like everyone agrees the larger diameter hose has better suction power.

1) Has anyone upgraded the hose  and seen pretty big differences?
2) Curious why the larger one isn't included by default if so
3) Will the large one fit in the same hose storage that came on top of the CT 26 E?
4) Is it just me or is the 27mm rubber tool opening really hard to get into the tools? I only have the TS but I always have a bit of a fight getting it in there...

The reason why the 27mm hose is the default hose is mainly because most of their smaller tools - jigsaws, sanders, 1010 routers are more easily managed with the 27mm hose rather than the larger 36mm hose. And on those smaller tools, particularly the sanders, I don't see much dc improvement with the 36mm hose.

On the TS Saws, Planer, 1400 and 2200 Routers - the larger hose offers better dc. No, the 36mm hose is too large to fit in the hose garage and yes, the adapters on the tool end of the hose are purposely a very snug fit, though does get a little mitigated over time.

Yup. ^

The D36 hose will help a little on the track saw. Is too cumbersome for sanding. And gives the biggest improvement with router , Kapex, and planer.

I agree with Bob, and would add that with the second hose you can
*  Use two hoses with your 2200 (and some other tools) with the Y adaptor, and
*  With the tradesman set vacuum up shop waste.  I found that not-very-large chips and plane shavings stopped up the 27mm hose with the compact set.

Welcome to the FOG. Once I got the 1400 I found I needed the 36 mm hose. The 27 mm seems to do just fine with my TS 55R. Stick with the 27 until you get a tool requiring the bigger hose. Also stick with Bob. Everything I ordered arrived in pristine shape. The packaging did fill my recycle bin, but that’s a good thing. Enjoy your new Festools.

I believe that Sedge did something on Instagram that shows what the difference between the two hoses are, and its huge. Having challenged grey cells now, if its not Sedge then it will be the UK Guru Mr Phil Beckley'

I want to put it in a sustainer - anyone know if it'll fit in a systainer 3?

Be aware that there are old ribbed style hoses and new "cloth" ones that are just becoming available.

27mm hose works absolutely fine with my TS55. Very little dust when your work piece is properly supported and I've never had it clog. Save yourself some money until you get a tool that needs it.

Hmmm... Well, I've noticed better dust collection with my TS55 when using the larger D36 hose. This is especially evident when cutting MDF material -- and in that case the increase in efficiency is most welcome.

Thanks all. I think I will wait for the new cloth 36mm x 3.5m and buy it. Sounds like it's a good buy. Bob is going to check if it'll fit in a systainer 3 or if i'll need to get a 4.

1) I bought the D36 hose later as part of a cleaning kit, and it's nice with the planer (EHL 65).

2) I wouldn't want to have the D36 by default, for the very simple reason it doesn't even fit on the RTS, DTS, OF 1010, PS300, etc.

3) Yes. If I remember right up to D27 x 5m and D36 x 3.5m. Not sure why Bob disagrees  [tongue]

4) They get softer / more flexible over time. Not just the endpiece, but also the hose itself.

Note; I'm talking about the older 'ribbed' hoses. I don't plan on spending $$$$ to replace any of my hoses, that are all just perfectly fine.
