CT 33 hose length

I just purchased a Rotex 125 sander and CT 33 to comply with the EPA RRP rule.  For exterior siding use, I was wondering how long of vacuum hose can you use (would not be uncommon to be up 3 stories)?  How much would suction suffer with such a long hose?

Festool recommends a maximum hose length of 7 meters. Coincidentally, the longest hose Festool sells, is also 7 meters.

For those who aren't good at conversions, 7 meters = 23 feet.  This has come in conversation before.  Some forum members have reported using longer lengths with great success.  If the particles are fine, as in the case of sanding, you can probably get adequate suction at lengths that are more then 7 meters, especially since the material will be traveling with gravity.

We run our vacs at 1/4 to 1/2 power for most sanding operations. So as Shane said, you can probably get away with using a longer length seeing as you have the ability to increase the vacuums power.

Thanks everyone.  I tried out ct 33 today with the 125 rotex sander (not on lead paint).  Sanding down some pine joists overhead that needed black marks from the mill or lumber yard sanded off.  It was nice being able to switch between the 2 modes on the sander as needed.  Sometimes, random orbit was enough, other times it needed the direct drive/aggressive mode.  I love the auto on feature, without it, I do not think I would want to bother with a vac attachment most of the time.

Now, just to decide how much to spend and on what accessories for the vac.

Buy the tradesman/installers cleaning kit, you get a 36mm hose and all the nice tubes and cleaning attachments.
