CT 36 dust extractor/Vac popping problems

Hi guys I just brought a CT36 vac with the plantx sander to sand drywall.
But I noticed straight away the vac kinda popping like the suction was getting closed on and off.. I though I might have put the bag in wrong so I removed that and just ran the vac separately to see if it would work normally but it still did it. It's like every 10 minutes or so the vac stops sucking and make a large sound then it's fine and continues ..
Any ideas

welcome to the fog.
im going to guess that you have the auto clean vac. that turns on and off the suction to the tool so that it will clean the filters

as far as i know you dont need bags but it would be a pain to empty the vac otherwise.
is there dust on the outside of the bag that has been knocked out of the filters

That's the self clean, you can relax - it doing what it's supposed to do  [smile]

When you're not sanding drywall you can disable the auto clean (AC) by dialing it down on the front knob.

Other question is I have always owned a wallpro or star mix vacs that need the dust bag which is reusable, but with the festool it came with 5 plastic disposable ones(no idea how to use by the way) and a self clean woven one which I have been using but problem is it isn't a reusable one. So I wanted to know do I need to use a bag with this bag when sanding drywall or is it safe not to bother?? And if I don't use the bag how would the filters go, would they need to be cleaned more often or replaced thanks again for all your help here!!! I'm a new user to these tools so all the info and tips r great

When sanding drywall, put a plastic ones in the tub of a vac like lining a trash can.  Do not use the other bag.

There is no need for a bag with the auto clean, that's the whole point of it.  the plastic liners make it easier to dispose of the dust but that's it. You can reuse them a couple times though which I have done cause they are kinda pricey. Just make sure when you put the liner in that you don't cover the metal tabs just above the intake as they are the grounding contacts for the anti-static (I just figured this out the other day).
Have fun with the planex, it's one of the best investments I've ever made, I no longer dread sanding day.
