CT Midi Auto function

Man, I feel stupid...

I’ve had the Domino 700XL and the CT MIDI for about a year and a half. I’ve used it some but not a lot.

I was initially intrigued by the CT MIDI’s “Auto” on function. Why didn’t my very expensive Domino 700XL work with that? Neither the Domino or CT manual made it explicit how that works. Today I discovered what that 120vac socket on the front of the CT MIDI is for.  Facepalm!!!

Plug the Domino into the CT, set the CT to auto, hook up the extractor hose and BINGO! It works.

German engineering makes great tools, cars and appliances but their technical manuals sometimes leave a little to be desired.  I couldn’t find this on their website either. Maybe I didn’t look hard enough.

The question is: was this so obvious to everyone that no detailed explanation was thought necessary?  Am I the only person who didn’t get it right away?

I’ve been in technology a long time and can usually figure things out with minimal reference to tech manuals but this had me stumped for awhile.

Ha - don't ask a question you don't want to hear the answer to.

(I've had plenty of those moments too - here is from page 7 of the manual:

Manual and Automatic Modes
The main power switch has three positions: Off, Manual,
and Automatic. In the Off or Manual positions, the electrical
receptacle on the front of the vacuum is disabled. In the
Automatic mode, the receptacle will have power, and the
vacuum will automatically turn on when the vacuum detects
that the connected tool is turned on.)

Mike,

I think that’s what I saw that finally turned the light bulb on.

Part of the problem is that their tech manual is so cluttered with disclaimers, safety warnings and so forth that it can be easy to miss something like that without “careful” reading.

All in all I love Festool  tools and will be acquiring other ones as the budget allows.

Aha. Happens.

I do think it is “obvious” you need to plug it in the vac. Thats how they all work, except for the bluetooth battery powered tools. Once you turn on the tool, amps are “flowing” and thats what is detected by the vac, so it turns on (and off with a little bit of delay once the tools is switched off).

Watch more YT! Or RTFM [big grin]. TBT nowadays I do read the manual, because similar things happend plenty...  9/10 I read something I did not realize.
