CT Midi & Mini

Hello All,

I am going to purchases a VAC this coming weekend.  I would have the $ to buy a CT 22 or CT33 but I don't want to spend the money if I don't have to.

I Have the Kapex and other Festools and I want the vac to be used on the Kapex and the other tools.  Is it possible for the CT midi or mini to be hooked up to a Kapex?  My dealer says no but I heard & read some other threads that say you can.  I know the Kapex requires a larger diameter hose and I think that is the issue with being able to connect that hose to your CT.

So,  Is it possible to hook the kapex up to a Midi or Mini?  What is the down side of hooking a Kapex up to one of these smaller units?

Also, for the people that has ever used a CT midi or Mini and the CT 22 or 33, any down side of not have a larger vac instead of the smaller ones?

Hi Forum MFG,
With regard to the mini or midi and the Kapex, it is physically possible to use the 36mm hose by unplugging the hose that is standard on the mini or midi.
Now comes the but, and that is you will be constantly emptying the mini or midi!!!!! plus the cost of all those bags!!!!
You are by far better off spending a little more for the 22 or 33 it will save you money long term.
The other aspect is that with the 22 or 33 you get 3900 litres of airflow rather than 2800 on the mini or midi.
The extra airflow will give much better extraction with the Kapex.
I hope that this is helpful to you!

I have a CT22 for the shop and a CT-Midi for site work.  Both are great vacs, but I think the extra power and capacity of the CT22 are worth the extra money.  I cut a fair amount of MDF, and really like the HEPA filtration of the larger models.

If you are just working in the shop, I would probably recommend the CT22 or CT33.  If you need more mobility, go with the smaller models.

I have used both with the Kapex, and there is not a lot of difference between the two in results.  The D36 hose makes much more difference than the vac.  Also note that because the hose inlet on the Midi is on top (inside the hose garage), so you can't really have a systainer attached to the top of the vac when using the D36 hose.

Like mwhafner I also have a CTL22 in the workshop and a Midi for when I'm out and about. I bought the Midi before the 22, and in comparison the 22 is significantly bigger - I wouldn't want to lug it around much. I guess if I had the 22 first I'd probably find the Midi tiny... *shrug*

I don't find the capacity a big deal at all - I worked with the Midi as my only vac for a couple of years and never had a problem; the 22 hasn't made a huge difference one way or the other, to be honest. If I was mostly workshop based and could only have one vac then it'd have to be a 22 I think. If my work was as mixed as it is now, then I'd be happy with the Midi - or two ;)

I don't have a Kapex so can't relate to that.

Hope this helps, Pete.

Hi ForumMFG,

I agree with the others that the 22 is well worth the price differential in terms of power and capacity.  If you can afford the luxury of two vacs and you are out of the shop for extensive time periods, I would suggest the midi or mini and the 22.  If you are gonna only have one vac though, I would go with the 22.  You could always add the midi or mini later.

The 22 gives you so many options down the road that you cannot get with the smaller vacs.  Also, it can be made portable if need be.

I just have a feeling that you will never second guess your decision to get the 22, but you might always regret going the other way.

Also never forget Festool's 30 day return guarantee.  Good as gold in my book.

Thanks for all your comments.  I will be going with the CT 22.  If I get a larger one, I can never look back.  These choices are so hard to make and I had to make another hard choice this past Friday when I had to decide between the TS 55 or the TS 75.  I bought the TS 55 and hope that I don't ever need to look forward=)

Quick note guys, Festool has HEPA filters for the CT Mini and Midi, they aren't yet available (at least not in N. America). Hopefully they will be soon.

They're not available in the UK either, nor is there any info relating to them on the German site. Strangely though, the German site doesn't even show the HEPA filters for the CT22/33 (493334).

Jonny, the Mini/Midi HEPA filters are listed in the Festool USA catalog as part number 796 752 for $33 USD.

Hi all,
Looking in the 2009 Festool catalog, it shows HEPA filters are available for the MINI and MIDI. Part #496 752 and sells for 33.00 USD. Hope this helps!

Yes, they are listed in the 2009 catalog, but not yet available.

Nothing on the UK or the German site for that part number - looks like it's ONLY available in North America!

Well, it had to happen eventually!
