CT MINI + UDD = no need for the CT 36?

I was thinking...  if I'm planning to get the dust deputy, I wouldn't really need the bigger capacity of the CT 36, right?  Is there any reason why this would be a bad idea?  I noticed that the bigger vacs have a higher cfm rating.  But I'll have a separate dust collector for the larger tools.  This would just be for things like the TS55 or the Rotex.

The Mini should work just fine.  Another option are the CT 22 and CT 33 models that are now being discontinued so you can get a deal on them if you really want a larger vac.

Make sure you consider whether or not you'll want to add the boom arm to the vac at some point.

I'd go with Brice's idea... if you look at the specs, the CT-22 isn't that much larger than the mini, but you get more CFM, can add the boom arm, and larger capacity even if the DD will trap most of it.

Who's still selling them?

I have a chance of getting hold of an ex display CT22 but wonder if the bags for the newer 26 are compatible and if not how long are they likely to be available?

Anyone know?

The design of the Ct 26 bags are different.  Festool's policy is to have consumables for at least 7 years after a tool is discontinued.

This seems like a reasonable amount of time.  But I still think this sort of thing is yet another reason why bagless designs are superior.  Maybe for a contractor, they would wear out the vacuum before this 7 years was up.  But for the hobbyist, I suspect that after 7 years, they'll have a perfectly good vacuum with no source for bags.

Can't speak about how things turn out in the USA but here in Europe it is still possible to get bags for Festool vacs that are over 20 years old. Sometimes original, other times 3d party. There's a huge market for 3rd party vacuum bags over here for all kinds of brands. I don't think you should have to worry about running out of bags anytime soon.

As already posted here the new self cleaning bags don't fit the old extractors as is.  Chris Rosenberger's thread shows how he modified his CT 33 to work with the new C36 bags, check it out here.

Also of interest to some is a recent review were Rob Z mentioned the self cleaning bags for the CT Mini and Midi vacs.

....Christian (Oltzscher of Festool USA) generously offered to send to me  a supply of the new "pliable fleece filter bags" for my CT Mini, which were supposed to be able to avoid the problems with fine dust,--but these bags were in Germany and couldn't be obtained fast enough to help on our project.......

It remains to be seen if these new bags for the smaller vacs will come to market here in the States.
