Mine even w/o the upgrade works great.

So I wouldnt let not having the upgrade stop you from buying it if you need it. It sort of cool watching that dust fly around the bit while Im sanding et

A question on the issue of the bag getting sucked up - is that an issue with these? I have an Oneida Dust Deputy on my CT36, and it has a small air hose going into the top bin and attaches to the vacuum hose below - all for the express purpose of keeping the bags from getting sucked in. There is also a filter on the inlet in the bin. Genius solution... I was wondering how Festool dealt with the suction/bag issues on their little unit.
I DON'T like the size of the Oneida unit on my CT36 - it makes it HUGE! But it works really, really well.
So - just wondering how the bag keeps from getting sucked in.

Thanks!

I don’t use the bag. It’s not necessary to use for the unit to properly work. I just use the bin and empty when full

Hi
If the bag is not tucked into the corners of the container it can sometimes be shifter by the cyclone effect. Once the bag has some waste in it then all is good.
It’s cool to see the different layers building up as well like Ron says

I suppose if you fill the bag about half or 3/4 full with dust before you start, you could eliminate the bag suction issue [big grin]

Yeah but I've found if you run the vacuum without new material coming in (in between operations), the vacuum starts emptying the cyclon bag/bucket.  I'm now trying a go with it bagless to see how it goes. Not what I wanted to do, but since the cyclone would continualy un-do it's own good I have to try something.

Well, I took delivery of the CT VA 20 and can clearly see why Festool created the upgrade kit. If you look at the tool wrong, the black circular top piece moves out of alignment. Ok, I'm exaggerating, but the slightest little bump or jiggle, and things shift and fall out of place.  Even worse, the black suction tube that goes from the outside of the case to the center of the black cyclone circular thing wobbles and doesn't sit snug in its home. This tube should have snaps to keep it secure. Same with the lid.

Any updates on this kit for the US, and or if you buy a CT VA 20 now will it come with the kit applied.  Be nice to know if there is a different PN, the festool website shows it with the straps now, but has the old PN.

Something to keep the bag stuck to the floor would be good too. I've poked mine down best I can and now end up weighing it down with a few scraps... possibly to no effect but it stops the bag getting sucked up.

You could try adding a equalizing line like that used on the Ultimate Dust Deputy. Just a piece of nylon tubing that pulls a vacuum on the space between the outside of the bag and the inside of the container. You can see it in the photos on their website.https://www.oneida-air.com/ultimate-dust-deputy-cyclone-kit-festool-vacs

I finally got around to fitting this. I would obviously have preferred it if Festool had provided it to me free of charge, but I guess the £24 I paid is a drop in the ocean compared to the £5k+ I've spent with them in the last 6-12 months.

My personal advice to anyone fitting it is to disassemble the original black handle before trying to remove it from the Systainer top. Itself is only two plastic parts with a spring in the middle, and clips back together very easily.

The reason for this is that it allows you better access to the ramped profile on the pivot and reduces the stress on the plastic systainer tabs when removing.
