CT-VA Liner Bags

I love my CT-VA-20, but I gave up on the bin liner bags really early on.  Due to the air pressure difference inside/outside of the bag, they kept collapsing upwards and I was just certain it was impacting the performance of the cyclone.

I've mostly been really happy using it without the bags, but every time I empty it, I make a bit of a mess and get a little annoyed at myself for not using the bags.

I tried putting wood scraps in the bottom, but the bag still collapsed.  I also tried my best to smooth the bag against the inside of the bin to eliminate as much air between the bag and the bin as possible.

I would love to be able to just open it up, tie off the bag, and throw it away with no mess.

Were any of you that use the bags able to either 1)solve this problem, or 2) get comfortable that the sucked-up bag wasn't affecting performance?

I tried to use the bags but it just didn't seem to work well.  I gave up and removed the bags.  I either just dump it in a large garbage bucket outside or use my other DD setup and just suck out the contents.

I don't use a bag either. But when it's time to empty, I take a garbage bag and basically wrap it over the top of the bin, making a seal, before inverting and dumping the contents. I still try to do it outside and wear a mask because theres a bit of dust released but not nearly as much as if you just dump the bin into a trash can.

On the Ultimate Dust Deputy they have a little vacuum tube that connects from the dust tub to the vac inlet to address this, but as long as the bag isn't collapsing enough to actually cover the separator I don't think it should matter.

Maybe gluing a magnet into the bin and dropping a washer into the liner would help?

I'm with benz240 pretty much word for word. If you can find a bag big enough to snug over the top of the bucket it's easy enough to slowly tip the waste out. But just you wait for the time when the bag slips... I wear a mask every single time I empty mine as I learned that lesson the hard way [big grin]

This is essentially where I ended up also. I'm not very good about wearing a mask while doing it, though - I need to be better about that.

But just you wait for the time when the bag slips...

I do not bother. This is really not a problem unless you do drywall stuff etc. as the really fine dust is not caught by the cyclone anyway and goes into the bag.

I found it working well to simply dump it into a shop trash bin we use which have bags in them. They are about 2' high so not too big a height difference for the dust to catch speed and spread in air. There is virtually no dust cloud generated during the emptying this way and very little gets outside the trash bin.

In any case, it can be solved/made better by punching a couple small holes in the liner just below the top. That will help suck out the air between the liner and the box.

This is similar to what is used by the liners for the AC vacs - these have pretty big "filter-ish" material windows for that.

Exactly the same here. I'm planning to put a few washers on a piece of string around the inside of the bag and use magnets on the outside of the box to pin the bag against the sides. I figure this way I can retrieve the washers when the bag is full, although now I think of it, it maybe just as easy to use old nails etc that always emerge from repurposed material

I had the same problem. It was when I did  floor cleanup within 3 mins the bag collapsed and stuck to the vacuum.  When I was using it for sanding it worked just fine.  It’s a real pain but its better than having to change the main bag and replace with an expensive replacement.
