CT vacs vs Fein vacs

Hi all,
I have in service a fein turbo3 vac, so when I purchased the TS75 I could not justify the purchase of a ct22 which I coveted. I did check out a demo CT22 at a shop and concluded that the suction of the turbo3 was greater.

The fein does have its faults: Large and awkward shape, weight.

Any thoughts?

Hi Warrior

      Welcome to the group. I have both the fein and ct 22 vac's, I think the fein is an excellent vac, for heavy duty day to day, in the field work. The ct 22 really excels at the fine work i.e. sanding with a speed control.The fein should be fine for sawing and the ct22 may be helpful eventually. Personally I need to pace myself with tools, and I guess I feel lucky to get 'em when I need, oftentimes I have tools on my wishlist for a year or more. Are you familiar with Lie Nielsen terrible habit, but I've had worse. Thanks Dan

Dont forget the ability to stack your sys/sortainers on the vacum. I agree that the Fes vacs dont have as good a suction as others, but their part of the system

Yes, the Fein does have more suction and all the Fein vacs happen to be very good ones. However, beside the other advantages mentioned, the CT's come with 2 HEPA filters standard, has adjustable suction,  a 3 year warranty, work with any and all Festool tools and are anti-static.

And here's my review of the Hose Garage:http://festoolownersgroup.com/index.php?topic=333.0.  I realize now it's really meant for people who move their DC around a lot (like to a job site).  That said, it provides a convenient place to store my second hose plus a couple of attachments for quick access.  Also, it raises my C12 drill systainer to a more convenient level.   

Fein and Festool make fine (pun intended) products.  A key difference with Festool is the number and ways that you can hook up the Festool products to work as a system.

Besides the ability to lock on several Systainers, I make use of the tray configuration every time i use my MFT.  As many have discovered (a total understatement, I am sure), there is never enough room on any single work surface to handle all of the tools and machines necessary to construct  a given project.  I have my guide rail mounted close to the end of my MFT.  There is barely room to set down my AFT 55 or one of my routers in between cutting and setting wood for next cut.  That tray configuration at top of the CT is just perfect to place saw or router, or both, in between cutting operations.  Plenty of room and perfect height for easy reach (I'm short so don't need to bend over very far.).
Since adding the boom, i find the tray factor even more handy as I do not develope a tangle that needs constant sorting as i keep switching tools.

My Fein Turbo 2 came with a longer, larger diameter hose than comes standard with the Festol vacs. It's a little quieter than the Festool vacs but not significantly so. If I have to pick up water I use the Fein. For general use in my shop I use the Fein because of it's longer hose.

Since it won't allow me to stack stuff on top I hang the Fein from a rafter by the top handle via a rope and carabiner and often suspend the hose from rafters via bungee cords. This allows me to stack stuff under the Fein vac. I keep a Festool Y adaptor plugged into the Fein vac so the hose is heading up and this allows me to keep a Festool hose connected as well. Having a second hose attached reduces suction some so I don't usually have a problem using the Fein for fine sanding. If suction is cut too much I can pull one of the hoses and close that side of the Y with the included cap.

When I need to work away from the Fein I use a Festool vac. the Festool vacs are optimised for working with sanders and portability. Two vacs are better than one.
