CT22 hose blowout

Yesterday the stock hose from my CT22 blew out (split) in multiple places. Has anyone had this happen to any of their hoses. Not sure what could have caused multiple failures as I have only ever used it for dust collection (no vacuuming of the shop). I'd been thinking about getting a sleeved cord and this has forced my hand.

This brings to mind the downside of the sleeved hose. That hose will split too at some point but it won’t be apparent.

Say what? Now this is one of those issues I’d really, really like Festool tech service to weigh in on and give us some of their insight on if they have seen a track record of hose failures.
I have a Milwaukee stainless R2D2 that’s over 30 years old, a Fein that’s over 20 years old and a CT 22 that’s probably 15 years old and all still work fine. No hose blowouts. This is the first time I’ve ever heard about this issue.

Nothing will last forever. Vinyl materials harden over time. It sounds like the hose is original to the CT22. I believe the  CT22 was discontinued in 2010. It sounds to me like you got very good service out of that hose.

I am not looking for sympathy, a free replacement or anything for that matter. I was noting that it was unusual for it to blow out like that. I've never seen a hose split in one place, much less several at once. I have a circa 1990's Porter Cable hose that is holding up just fine and it too is vinyl/plastic.

I had been thinking about buying one of the newer hoses and this forces my hand.

My CT 22 is still working on its original hose.  Mine is shorter but that is due to stupidity on my end  [eek].  I don't remember reading about splits in hoses unless there was accidental damage.  And most will not post about accidental damage.

Your's, to me, seems to be an very unusual case.

I'm still on my original CT 22 hose after 9 years.  I have to suggest that perhaps something liquid was sucked through it that caused the hose to deteriorate at a much more rapid rate.  Alternatively, perhaps that hose was cleaned at some point with a cleaner that may have caused the hose to deteriorate.

Yeah, strange. I don't remember seeing another report of that either.

Is it shop bound or does it get coiled for transport? Maybe age combined with coiling?  Don't know.  [unsure]

Is it left in a place where its subject to constant direct sunlight so may have been affected by years of UV?
Or maybe cleaned up liquids that might have made it brittle?
My bet in UV light though.

A couple of my old (very) hoses have been shortened after splitting due to over exercise at the tool end.

Bit my even older Fein hose has not. I think Festool used thinner material in the hose so it could be stowed in the hose garage.

I have a CTL Mini from 2006 and from time to time the tool end of the hose will break off, happened a couple of times by now. So my hose slowly becomes shorter.

The hoses of most other brands are much more flexible and made of some kind of rubber, where the Festool hoses are made out of pretty thin plastic which will deteriorate faster, and the addition of the electric conductive material might also have a negative influence on the overal strength, on a molecular level.

Ive had holes in my grey hoses for my CMS. I just cut that part out and shorten it a bit keep using the hose.

In your case, I dont know why it happened, maybe stepping on it a few times, dropping something on it, setting some heavy tools on it leavingit in direct sunlight dont know where you live but say a state like Az that gets very hot or Minesota where it gets very cold might affect it ,could be a number of reasons.

Id salvage what i could make some shorter hoses for the apex, 850 bench stand even make some small extensions when ya need a few feet more, what ever and get a new one. I seen some chatter here where the ridgid hoses will work and they are less expensive. Soething to think about. Havent tried it myself yet

My Silicon tape repair, [ugly as it is  [member=5277]Alex[/member]  [big grin]] continues on!  I even have a replacement hose purchased two years ago, still in its box. [eek]

It is used with their boom arm setup. I guess the c-shaped plastic pieces that hold it in place could be the issue, but the multiple blowouts can be explained. I'll save what I can to make a shorter hose or an extension.

I use mine on a boom arm to. I havent had that problem
