CT26 vs Midi

The newer cyclone's from Dust Deputy come with an anti static grounding kit, this basically consists of some metallic tape that you stick on the cyclone unit and an earthing connector that attaches between the cyclone and the buckets, you then attach a wire to this that just sits on the ground.
I will try to get a photo of this later for you.

Oneida has gone beyond all that.  They no longer use metallic tape and instead have replaced the clear cyclone with a black one that is made from conductive black plastic.  There are also other improvements in the design to eliminate any chance of not having a complete electrical path from the tool to the vacuum.  Owners of UDD's with the clear cyclone can get a free upgrade kit from Oneida.
[member=18233]jbasen[/member] That might be the case in the USA but down here in the Lucky country what you see in my photo is what you get. No upgrades, no replacement parts, if you want the DD in antistatic black then you have to buy the Box version that sits on top of the Festool Vac and it costs $500,  Don't ask me why we are called the Lucky Country!

Not Oneida Dust Deputy (to be crystal clear) but an alternative.

DUST COMMANDER DLX ESD - High performance cyclone filter element/dust collector

£35.90 and £6 shipping to Australia (about $90 AUD total; don't know about your import taxes though)

How easy is it to "airtight" a systainer and have that mounted on top of a midi do you reckon [member=11629]GarryMartin[/member] (or anyone else) - I presume you've done something similar?

Because at £35 I'm tempted to add one to my other vac and not bother making another homebrew one like I already have.

I think it's been done before on this forum.

IIRC, the Systainer by itself isn't sturdy enough for the vacuum created so you need to "ply line" it or similar to reinforce, which then lets you use the foam weather strip to make it airtight.

I believe the Oneida version has a pressure relief valve too to stop the things imploding (!!!) so you may want to consider how you'd implement something like that.

I don't have the unit pictured (yet) but have recently got hold of a similar design from the wonder that is Aliexpress, shipped for less than £20 total, so I will be playing around with a few ideas in the near future with the plan being to create a final design with the new ESD version I linked to above. Although it says they've sold hundreds, they updated the listing; the old listing was a very similar design but was not an ESD unit. That's not a bad thing - just pointing out that the ESD unit is quite new (and after I'd placed my order) and hence why I don't have it (yet!) and why the videos show the previous version.

I came up with that cunning plan and it failed dismally! I bought a SYS 5 but the top of the systainer only allows an offset hole to be cut and therefore did not work correctly as a dropbox as the airflow was not even.

So for attempt 2, I got a SYS 1 and took the lid off it (used that on the SYS 5 which I now use for storage), cut a section out of the front of the SYS 1 and fitted a 25 litre drum into the base of the SYS 1 with some bolts. This now can fit onto either my CTL26 or my CT Midi.

I will take a photo of it when the weather is better if you like. Works great now.

If anyone wants to knock up a pressure relief valve, they are easy to make, I just started a thread on the subject here: http://festoolownersgroup.com/other-tools-accessories/how-to-make-an-'auto-resetting'-pressure-relief-valve-for-cyclones/msg426894/#msg426894
