First hello to you all, this is my first post on this excellent forum. I live in Northamptonshire in the Uk. After years of saying "Festool are not worth the cost" well after getting the 1400 router I am a convert. I have since bought a MFT 3, TS55 and Domino 500.
My latest machine is a CTL midi extractor. Having got it home confusion has set in. Can I use it for working on MDF. I only have a small workshop so it is important to control the dust as much as possible. I read that it has a HEPA bag but no mention of it in the manual.
Do I change it to a better machine ( cost more) get my money back under 15 day return policy or get a cyclone for it. I am loath to get rid of it as I like it.
Many thanks
Mick

Sure you can use it with MDF, why wouldn't you?

As for HEPA, that's mainly an American thing. Over here in Europe you can get an HEPA filter (not bag), for the CTL26, but not for the CTL Midi.

Thanks for the reply Alex.
It's the filtration that concerns me. MDF needs filtration down to 0.5 micron.

Hi

I have a midi and cut and sand loads of mdf, hardwood etc with tracksaw / rotex etc.
I think the filtration is 0.1mg per m3 (could be wrong) but I'm sure that's documented somewhere.
I'm sure even the larger cleantex ctl48 and other similar larger units still state the same  "dust limits >1mg m3 same as the midi.
The best tips I got was, only use Festool bags, never try and empty them and keep a spare in the back recess of the midi.

I also connect the kapex into it and even with the 2.7m hose the dust extraction is exceptional for a mitre saw.
Enjoy the tools and welcome to the addiction.
Best regards
Scott

L class filtration is 1mg , if you want 0.5 you need an m class extractor. Saying that,    I use my midi with mdf and the outside of the bag and inside the chamber don't have any dust on them.

They must do different spec for different country's . Uk site says >1 micron.

I don't think so, the only difference is the wording of each country's website. What is

Thank you all very much for your comments and advice. Have used the extractor more today and really like it, so much so I think I shall change it for CTL26 don't think it will take long to fill up a bag. I will also have the option to buy a HEPA filter for it, though going by the comments here there will be no need.
Many thanks
Mick

One is milligrams, the other microns. The first is a measure of weight, the second a measure of size, so they are not on the same scale and can't be compared.

mick im from birmingham uk. how do you fing the extraction on the of1400 router? i currently work for magnet fitting kitchens every week and im after a good router with good extraction. will a of1400 be up to cutting laminate worktops and the odd solid wood worktop or shall i go for the of2200 im trying to cut corners by being a cheap skate but if a of1400 will be capable why not. im also after the one with the better extraction. cheers for your advice in advance thanks rob

Rob it will do worktops but the 2200 will do it quicker and easier from what I've heard. I have the big dewalt one I use and thought about getting the 1400 to use as the dust collection is better ,but didn't bother.

Hi Rob. Have to agree with joiner1970 the 1400 will do it but the 2200 will do it with ease day in day out. We have a 2200 at work it is a big lad but the weight helps and the dust extraction is very good.

i just emptied the bag out on my midi today. cut a bit mdf planed a few doors and routed a few work tops recently. no dust or nowt in the filter still. plenty in the bag like.

i slit the bottom and used a plastic hoover bag clip to close it again. think that bags onto its 3 use now. itll probs be clogged by now like. so ill have to hoy a new one in there for next time.

as for routers i have a big makita router. half inch. ive only used it for worktops its ok. it collects some of the small airbourne dust. but the bigger stuff all goes on the floor. hmmmm unless reusing bags has lessend the suction. i have only a 27mm hose too, maybe a 36mm hose would make an improvement to suction
