The instructions in the MFT/3 table indicate that you should support the track/splnter guard completely while sawing the splinter guard to "bed" it. The TS55REQ manual seems to imply that nothing should be underneath the splinter guard while bedding it. Others have told me this also. Which is it? Or doesn't it matter?

Welcome to the FOG!  [smile]

I am not sure it really matters. I have generally just cut them fully supported when making an actual first cut with the new splinter guard.

How you cut the splinter guard isn't terribly critical, except that it gives most new owners angst because it's the first time they have used the tool.

It doesn't matter whether the guard is supported from below. So it just depends on whether you can afford to cut into another surface or not.

The reason why I recommend the shallower blade depth for the first cut is that it will have less tendency to roll the splinter guard upward when it is still at it uncut width. The splinter guard will actually get trimmed back a little bit more the first time you make a cut with a deeper blade setting.

Thanks guys. Kind of figured it didn't matter too much. The supplemental user's manual is great though.
