What's the proper way to start cutting something 2.5" + thick?  If I place the saw and overhang it, the track flexes quite abit which can't be a good starting point. I tried a few test cuts by starting off plunging it into the wood and always at some point, the blade would just pull itself in like cutting through butter which is kind of unnerving. At first I thought I was applying alot of downward pressure so did a few cuts where I used both hands to slowly lower the blade and the same thing happened.

Hi Zapda, I have a 55, not a 75, but you could try a piece of foam (or any other sacrificial piece) under the overhang to plunge into and support the rail,  then move the saw forward into your piece.  Also, i think some of the guys on here have talked about making multiple passes on thick material rather than attempting the cut in one pass.  Good luck!

If you can support the overhang of the rail with like thickness (or close) material that will allow you to start  without plunging into the wood.  If you need to plunge, put the limit / anti-kickback stop on the rail. The stop hooks over the saw plate and greatly helps the comfort level of plunging.

I don't really have room to try the support method but I like the limit stop idea.

As far as making the cut in multiple passes, this thing had no problems going through 2.5 inches of wood. It was pretty amazing compared to the TS55.  I've come close to the maximum depth of a ts55 and it was struggling, even with a new panther blade. (white oak). The TS75 just growled happily as it sliced through the wood.  [big grin]
