CXS Compatibility ?

I have an 'older' CXS drill (564274) which I really like. I am thinking about getting a second one, and want to make sure the batteries are interchangeable.

Am I correct in thinking that the 'new' CXS drills / batteries, the ones with the flat rectangle shaped batteries, will not work with the drill that I have? (564534, 564535)

My drill has the battery that extends up into the handle, the newer versions look different. I just wanted to make sure that I get the right thing so I can use the batteries in both. From what I see, I need to buy 564261, or another 564274. Both seem harder to find online.

Any input or correction in my thinking is appreciated!

I'm pretty sure the batteries are compatible. I had the old one and now have the new one and I feel like they didn't change anything as far as how the batteries mount to the drill. I could run downstairs and double check but I don't have the 1.6ah battery to make sure. The old batteries work on the new drill and I'm basically 99.9% sure the new batteries work on the older version drill too.

It won't be long until someone yes yes or no definitely.

I haven't played with them, but I assumed they made them compatible. If they didn't they've made a monumental blunder!!

Kev, I agree it would be bad! I just wanted to make sure before I bought the second drill.

Second question, if the batteries are indeed interchangeable between new/old drills, does the same go for the chargers? Can I use my 'old' charger for the 'new' flat batteries.

They are absolutely  compatible!

Same charger for BOTH,old and new.

Yeah, they are. It's the same charger too btw. As far as the batteries, it's the back part that connects the electric current to the drill and it's the same.

There is one caveat to the above:

The TXS cannot use the older CXS batteries - they simply won't fit as there is nowhere for the "bar" to go. The CXS takes all batteries though I don't think the old batteries should influence the choice. The new batteries make up for it and I use the CXS more now as I feel I hardly ever run flat. They last a lot longer than the Ah would have me believe. That's how I feel - I am not saying it is right but I find the cut off point very much extended in practical use.

For anyone having a hard time deciding between the two I think they are both great in hand but the CXS feels more compact, has a better bit garage and has a much better and more reliable belt clip.

Your right about the CXS belt clip, very strong and a great addition if you are working up on a ladder, it's my only Festool drill where I actually use the belt clip.

First,the OP was asked about CXS Compatibility,nothing about TXS,it is simple to recognize that TXS cannot use the older CXS batteries.
And second,I agree about CXS,more compact,better belt clip and better bit storage.

Ok, sorry, I was thinking battery compatibility across the line.  Just wanted to throw it in there. 

DB10: The CXS is just about the only Festool drill I really trust with the belt clip. For the others I have made a lanyard (for ladder/roof work) or a bungy stump with a clip.
