I thought i would give my impressions to any of you guys thinking about buying festools cxs drill, before i bought the tool i couldnt really find a good enough review to warrant buying the machine but i can certainly say after working away from home for a night on a kitchen install i have definately put the drill through its paces.

I only have a short video but i think you can get the idea of what this drill can do! all the carcasses were rigid NOT flatpack and it was an empty space before we started, also there was a utility not shown in the video.

I used the cxs for pretty much everything but had my panasonics on hand for the heavier stuff, i can tell you that when the drill is used as intended the cxs is fantastic, i achieved most of this fit with only 2 full batteries but bear in mind i mainly used it for pilot holes (3mm) and driving screws from 3.5 x 16mm,3.5 x 30mm,3.5 x 60mm, adjusting doors and fitting appliances.

Although i used the cxs for the smaller screws it would still drive 5 x 50mm,5 x 70mm and also the pigtail type plasterboard fixings, it will do all those this but it kills the batteries fairly quickly.

I think the cxs is a great addition to any kitchen fitter/cabinet installers arsenal it provides much needed control when driving screws, fitting appliances, adjusting doors, also the angled chuck came in great for some tough to reach fixing points on the extractor, i thoroughly enjoyed working with the cxs the change from pilot drill to centrotec was a breeze popping on and off with no trouble and gave me so much more control compared to the impact drivers that i am used to, i would often reach for the cxs only to find my brother was using it grrr! it is very comfortable to hold and really is a joy to use. i think its great for kitchen fitting but i think your general site carpenter would have little use for it generally dismissing it as they would  need a "do it all" drill.

If you buy this tool please appreciate that it wont drill big holes, drive big screws or last as long as say your average 12v dewalt, or makita but it does the smaller stuff fantastically well and offers precision and control that you wont get from those bigger drivers or impacts.

I really am looking forward to using it again, awesome little drill!

cxs duties on this install

joining cabinets together
fixing worktop to cabinets
fixing cornice and pelmet to cabinets
various pilot holes
fitting appliances (small machine screws)
adjusting of doors
screwing handles on
plinth clips
i drove about 6 pigtail plasterboard fixings with it in which i drove 5 x 50mm screws

just to say i did drive some 5 x 70mm screws into rawlplugs and although it will drive them i would not reccomend it, use a bigger drill for this and ohh i learnt something else on this install the 1400 isnt a great router for worktops it will cut them fine but if you are doing them everyday as i do you need at least 2000w.

As far as your concerns about the "wobble" on the centrotec bit any problems or are you now happy it is no issue?

guy, yeh all seems fine mate i spoke to festool technical and he said its no issue and the drill has performed flawlessly driving screws without pilots and no wobble.

Good!  Gald ur happy wiv the drill!

Just the only thing putting me off is the battery life getting the impression from you it dont last long!  I own the Makita 12v and the batterie life on that well its very poor  especially on screws larger than 45mm x 4.0    I know im comparing it to 14.4 and above I just wish the 12v would just be that little better with batterie life.

I started to watch the vid thinkin im going to see the cxs in action but instead
im watching you just showing off the kitchen you just did!   [tongue] [tongue] [tongue] [poke] [poke]

jmb, the battery life is good but after driving the pigtails and the bigger screws it drained the battery fairly quickly, when doing the small stuff its perfectly fine and lasted longer than expected, ha ha yeh i know the videos crap but i was on a price and working away from home i just wanted to show what the drill can achieve rather than it in action, also wanted to show that the drill can perform in a professional enviroment,(didnt really have time to stop just wanted to get home!) its a great companion drill to a larger brother, on a kitchen install i will always reach for the cxs!

but now i gotta get that 2200 doh! more money! a hasty purchase on ebay...anybody wanna buy a 1400?

I just did a work top 2 day.  2 joints   and 6 bolt cut outs!   The OF2200 is Brilliant for the job!  Honestly!  You wont regret it!

Well I had 2 day off from this on going job im working on at the moment to get all my half finished jobs finished! lol   So I had to go and fit worktop only on this on job in Derby to finish the job. It was a U shape 2 joints and one open end cut out for  ceramic sink and hob.  Then rush off to a more local job near me fit some laminate flooring THEN just up the road fit some skirting in the last remaining room of the house as I did all the skirting and frames door and architrave and I had one room left then he wanted me to measure up for the wood for doing the dormer window as soon as I can.  Man it sucks packing up 3 times in one day!

Any way what im getting at is I was in a rush! lol  So you know I told you the OF2200 is powerfull enough to cut out bolts in one pass! Well it came in very handy to get this worktop done quicker!   I was able to cut out the 6 bolt holes out very quickly much quicker than any other router could (well any router I have ever used)  Next time ill do a video to show how quick I can cut out the bolt holes you will be impressed!  By the way on a 40mm work top I go about 30 or so mm deep with the bolt holes so the pressure of the bolts is near the top as you know!

I gotta say though if you dont own a CT vac you will also have to invest in one when you by the OF2200!  If you dont it will slow you down as

1. Dust gets in the way and does make it more difficult if your giving it some lol

2. Im pretty sure im positive the cutter lasts much longer when using the Vac!

3. Lot less mess!

JMB,

A 30 mm depth of cut for you worktop bolts does not get the bolt pressure nearer the top face of the worktop. It puts the pressure right in the middle of the work top section . That`s where it should be. [smile]

I said 30 or so  [tongue]   Cus I dont know exactually I just go by eye and then set my stop  [tongue]  I make sure the bolt rods are just past the half way so it pulls near to top more dont know y I just always done it da way.

JMB

a worktop bolt is about 20mm deep so 30mm deep would put the center of the bolt roughly in the center
